Caught My Eye…

For every good reason there is to lie, there is a better reason to tell the truth. – Bo Bennett

Welcome to the big show to end the week “Caught My Eye” (CME)!

If you are a first-time visitor, CME is posted right here every Friday morning. This is when I take a look at some of the stories I did not have time to write about during the week. I often throw in a touch of sarcasm to make you smile – or to irritate you just a little – maybe both.

Topics this week include Linda’s conspiracy theory, deleting emails, Rick Perry, The Western Word picks the winning candidates (so far), and much more!

Caught My Eye…

I never considered a difference of opinion in politics, in religion, in philosophy, as cause for withdrawing from a friend. – Thomas Jefferson

Welcome to the big show to end the week “Caught My Eye” (CME)!

What a week! Here I am working my tail off to bring you the best independent commentary from The Western Word world headquarters, which is located in a well-stocked underground bunker (in an undisclosed location). I worry about the Feds like Obama coming to take my guns or the UN moving in and taking over my compound. Now I have the added worry about freaking CLOWNS, running around my neighborhood, too? Beam me up, Scotty!

Montana Governor 2012: It’s Sonju!

Yesterday Republican gubernatorial candidate Rick Hill announced that he had selected State Senator Jon Sonju as his running mate.  Before I get into my analysis of the pick and because not many people outside GOP and legislative circles know him, here’s what the Hill Campaign had to say about state Senator Jon Sonju (taken from their press release):

From working in his dad’s body shop growing-up to helping expand his family’s Kalispell based manufacturing business, Sonju Industrial, Jon understands the challenges business owners face. Elected to the Montana Legislature in 2004, he has served in both the State House and the State Senate. During his time in the legislature he has been a consistent advocate for economic opportunity, smaller government, and the protection of our personal freedoms. Jon was born and raised in the Flathead Valley where he still resides today. He and his wife Tania have two young children, Jacob (6) and Brett (3).

Sounds like an all-American selection!

It was interesting yesterday what happened leading up to this big announcement (in a couple of ways) and it was interesting what the Montana Democrats had to say about the selection. Continue reading

Secret Revealed

In what was one of the worst-kept secrets of the 2012 political season (tying Denny Rehberg’s announcement that he was running for U.S. Senate) Montana Attorney General Steve Bullock will announce his intention to run for Governor today (Wednesday).

The Associated Press reported in an AP News Break on Tuesday that two people close to Bullock let the secret out that he was running for Montana Governor.  If you follow me on Twitter, you received that information yesterday through @TheWesternWord.

Early Wednesday morning (today) I received an e-mail from the Bullock campaign with the subject “Big News” in which he writes, “Later today, with my family by my side, I will announce that I am running for Governor of the State of Montana. Since we can’t all be in Billings for this announcement, I wanted you to hear first.” Continue reading
