Welcome! Here are the topics for today’s common sense commentary:

- Trump to Visit Kalispell
- Hello Portland
- Campaign Mailers Update
- One More Thing
FLINT/FORSTAG MT-01:
Democratic Congressional candidate Sam Forstag says that the latest polls show him leading Republican Aaron Flint 47% to 44%.
It was also reported that the race has been moved from “Lean R” to “Toss-up.” (Source)
That is probably the reason we are seeing so many nasty attacks from Flint and his supporters on social media. It seems kind of desperate.
In a recent debate, a response from Forstag about the transgender debate is getting a lot of attention:
“[My mom] taught me that government has no business sticking its nose into our personal lives, whether that’s a gun safe, whether that’s a doctor’s office. I don’t want a politician anywhere near it. So, let’s leave sports to the leagues that actually run them. Let’s let people live their lives with dignity and make their own private personal decisions and let’s keep politics the heck out of it. Because what I see with that kind of anger and rhetoric…they’re singing and dancing while they pick our pockets.” (Source)
That is an excellent response.
TRUMP TO VISIT KALISPELL:
In case you missed it, President Donald J. Trump will be in Kalispell this afternoon (Wednesday) to campaign for MT-01 Republican candidate Aaron Flint.
Brace yourselves, Kalispell: the MAGA circus is rolling into town, and the local cognitive baseline is scheduled for a nose dive. Thousands of the uncritical faithful are about to pack Majestic Valley Arena, ready to swallow a predictable cocktail of transparent lies, cheap policy bribes, and unhinged grievances hook, line, and sinker. If you feel a sudden, agonizing drop in the regional IQ this week, you know exactly who to blame.
Trump will first visit Bullhead City, Arizona, on Wednesday for a 12:45 p.m. (local time) speech. Trump is notoriously known for running late to his political rallies, and scheduling two in one day significantly increases the likelihood of a delay. (Source) Historically, and throughout his current 2026 campaign, attendees frequently anticipate waiting anywhere from one to three hours past his scheduled stage time. (Source)
HELLO PORTLAND:
This is from the “you can’t make this stuff up file.”
A Republican organization paid for an ad targeting Troy Jackson, Maine’s Democratic candidate for the U.S. Senate and incumbent Susan Collins’ opponent, to air in Portland, Oregon, instead of Portland, Maine. (Source)
Ouch.
CAMPAIGN MAILERS UPDATE:
I keep track of the campaign literature received during the campaign season. The literature is what I receive in the mail and what is left on my door.
Some of the better mailers will be shown here at The Western Word.
After last week, I had received a total of 19 mailers.
This past week, I received 7 more campaign mailers to bring the total to 26.
That is through Tuesday, October 13.
Please make sure you save your mailers and recycle them!
ONE MORE THING:
During my travels last summer, I came upon a roadside market. A sign read, “Lobster Tails $2.00.”
I thought that was a fantastic deal, so I paid my $2.00.
The guy said, “Once upon a time, there was a lobster named Bob.”
