WHITE HOUSE CORRESPONDENTS’ DINNER:

The email headline from the White House Communications team explains what happened Saturday night best:

President Trump Stands Fearless After Third Assassination Attempt

I never voted for Trump and don’t like what he does about 95% of the time, but I sure don’t want to see him assassinated.

There are really more questions than answers about the assassination attempt at this time. A man armed with guns and knives ran through security and got close to the ballroom where President Trump was seated.

There were several shots fired. Ironically, none hit the suspect. An officer was hit in the vest by a round and survived. I’m glad the suspect did not have a suicide vest on, or it might have been a tragedy.

Trump held a press conference at the White House a little later and brought up the need for the White House Ballroom. He talked about it in a post on social media later:

What happened last night is exactly the reason that our great Military, Secret Service, Law Enforcement and, for different reasons, every President for the last 150 years, have been DEMANDING that a large, safe, and secure Ballroom be built ON THE GROUNDS OF THE WHITE HOUSE.

This was a private event, so I’m not sure if it could be held there, but I’m sure Trump would bend some rules.

Meanwhile, the conspiracy folks were out and about, saying this assassination attempt was staged to get the ballroom built. I don’t believe it.

Talk like that triggered one of the biggest Trump supporters in Great Falls, City Commissioner Rick Tryon. He posted about four different posts on his Facebook page about the event. What started as a nice post about prayers for the President, soon he wrote about “unhinged conspiracy nut jobs” in his third post, in part, saying

The phrase ‘Trump Derangement Syndrome’ is used a lot and is mostly intended as a bit of humorous, exaggerated sarcasm.

I no longer believe it’s exaggerated or sarcasm.

Finally, for the topping on the cake, Tryon goes all in with a little threat:

It didn’t take long for it to go from “It was all staged…” to “We need more gun control.”

Memo to you lunatics with chronic TDS:

Stay the f#%* away from me and mine.

I practice the Second Amendment.

That comment seems a little “unhinged” to me – and he’s an elected official representing Great Falls.

2026 MONTANA CAMPAIGN NEWS:

Busse Releases First Ad…

The Ryan Busse campaign announced that they had released their first campaign ad for the MT-01 Congressional seat.

You can watch the ad HERE

Matt Rosendale Endorses…

NonStop Local is reporting that former State Senator Ric Holden, who is currently running for the first time in several years for the House District 33, picked up a significant endorsement this week.

Former Congressman Matt Rosendale threw his name behind Holden. The former congressman has remained relatively silent since his failed attempt to run for the Senate, which led him to withdraw from consideration for reelection for his own House seat.

The incumbent in House District 33 is Republican Brandon Ler, who was the Speaker of the Montana House last session.

Campaign Mailers Update…

For the new readers, I try to keep track of the campaign literature received during the campaign season. Some of the better mailers get shown on The Western Word.

So far this primary campaign season, I have received 16 campaign mailers. That is through Saturday (April 26).

Please make sure you save your mailers and recycle them!

ONE MORE THING:

At the White House Correspondents’ Dinner Saturday night, someone yelled “Shots,” and FBI Director Kash Patel and Secretary of War Pete Hegseth ran to the bar. (Video
