THE WESTERN WORD POLL:
This week’s poll question asks, “Which statewide elected official in Montana has embarrassed you the most?”
The results will be posted later this week.
DAINES SEEKING ATTENTION:
Several sources, including NBC News, reported that two Republican senators are facing criticism after tweeting photos of a video call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy even though participating lawmakers were told to not share pictures on social media while it was in progress. Sens. Marco Rubio of Florida and Steve Daines of Montana posted pictures of Zelenskyy on their Twitter accounts during the Zoom meeting Saturday morning, writing that they were on a call with him.
Daines will use anything he can to draw attention to himself. He does not understand how the military works and why his need for attention could have resulted in death.
Rep. Dean Phillips said the “Ukrainian ambassador very intentionally asked each of us on the Zoom to NOT share anything on social media during the meeting to protect the security of President Zelenskyy.”
Members were explicitly asked not to tweet or post pictures of the call while it was in progress, multiple aides told NBC News.
Daines’ inept spokesperson had this to say:
A spokesperson for Daines said his tweet, which was posted about 23 minutes after the meeting started, was “shared well into the call … before it was requested not to” and contained “no identifying information.”
According to several reports, the request to not tweet or post photos during the call was made before the Zoom call started.
You can read the full report from NBC News HERE.
COVID IN MONTANA:
The Associated Press (AP) reported last week that fewer than 100 Montana residents were hospitalized with COVID-19 late this week for the first time in more than seven months, the state health department said.
That is great news – thanks to all the folks who followed the guidelines from the public health officials.
The most interesting piece of information (to me) to come from the report is this:
Since April 2021, unvaccinated Montanans have accounted for 80% of hospitalizations and 77% of deaths due to COVID-19.

“Which statewide elected official in Montana has embarrassed you the most?”
Gee…..that’s a tough one, the list is so long. Maybe it would be simpler to point to a statewide elected official who HASN’T embarrassed us. I’m sure there is one…..give me a minute; it’ll come to me.
Fred – I like to make them tough! Lol. Thanks, JmB
Just a heads up…. I intend to vote every day during the current poll for a different person. I am embarrassed and ashamed of Daines, Rosendale, Gianforte, Knudsen and Artenzen. None of these people represent the majority of the people of Montana. I will never understand how our state was hijacked by them.
Kathy – Thanks. I’m not sure you can vote more than once from the same IP address. A few weeks ago someone voted several times to influence the poll, so I tightened the rules some. Thanks, JmB
Well I did it. I took your suggestion and read Rosendale review. And all I can say is thanks a lot, Jackie. I can’t unread that. No one could. The man really is stupider and more of a callous caricature than I thought.
But what really strikes me about his ignorance is his uncaring lack of concern for Ukraine. Has the man no soul? I suspect he’s way off base on this one. Montana is full of people of Eastern European extraction. And as such, it is only natural for us to feel a tremendous kinship to the Ukrainians and have great sympathy for their plight. In Montana, if you’re not Irish, you’re probably of Eastern European descent! Or Scandinavian. And they too are now chomping at the bit to get into NATO. What the hell is wrong with him? Many of us still correspond with relatives in the old countries, and visit them on vacations. And Rosy is worried about our border with Mexico as they are being slaughtered! Since when is our own border foreign policy! Big fat truckers afraid to get a poke are more of a concern to him than the humanitarian crisis since WWII.
The sooner we get rid of this embarrassment the better.
