Caught My Eye…

Quote for the Day…

I am just impressed by how ugly I am willing to look in public these days. – Mic Kosty

CME is the once-a-week column that is posted every Friday morning. This is when I look at some of the stories I did not have time to write about during the week.

Here are some of the things that “Caught My Eye” this week:

  • Biden SOTU Speech
  • Rep. Lauren Boebert
  • Update – Forgiving February
  • One More Thing

BIDEN SOTU SPEECH:

There were a lot of comments about President Joe Biden’s State of the Union (SOTU) speech Tuesday evening.

Face it – Biden is no Barack Obama when it comes to speaking, and neither is Donald Trump. Two of my favorite Presidents in the public speaking department were Ronald Reagan and Obama. They made me proud to be an American.

I know a little about speeches – I’ve given several, wrote some, won some speech and debate contests in college, and I have a degree in communication.

There were people on social media (some from Montana) who made fun of Joe Biden.

Donald Trump, Jr. called it “a mumbled speech.” He posted a meme that said, “Let’s get ready to mumble.”

The host of “Montana Talks” statewide radio show, Aaron Flint, retweeted something from Politico saying, “you could not have watched Biden’s speech without noticing an unusual number of verbal miscues…there were some odd moments Tuesday night” He also reposted a video with the “blunders” made by Biden. Sick.

I have listened to both the conservatives above speak, and I can tell you Joe Biden is better than them. Far better.

Others said, “This slurred speech further confirms that Joe Biden is not mentally fit.”

Then there are the dementia attacks on Biden. Terrible.

No matter what, some polls showed that close to 8 in 10 State of the Union watchers approved of Biden’s remarks. (Source)

That should be concerning to the conservatives.

But here is the bottom line – Joe Biden has a speech impediment disability (stuttering), and to make fun of him is cruel. Almost everyone knows about it – but it should be out of bounds to attack and make fun of him for it.

It’s estimated about one percent of the adult population stutters, which equates to almost three million people who stutter in the United States. (Source)

I can only imagine how these tweets make people feel who stutter.

Every time I think we’ve hit rock bottom, there’s something that takes us even lower.

REP. LAUREN BOEBERT:

Democrats should be thanking their lucky stars that Republicans have members like Lauren Boebert, Marjorie Taylor Greene, and Madison Cawthorn.

Their actions will make great fundraising material for the Democrats this year.

NPR reported this:

Colorado Republican Rep. Lauren Boebert heckled President Biden during his State of the Union speech as he was describing the death of his son Beau Biden, an Iraq War veteran who succumbed to brain cancer.

The U.S. House needs to have some strict rules about shouting at the President during the State of the Union (SOTU) address. It’s not dignified.

UPDATE – FORGIVING FEBRUARY:

“Forgiving February” is now over. A few people asked me for an update when it was over. Here it is.

In case you missed it, early in February I wrote that during the past few years, friends, and family on social media blocked me or unfriended me for my viewpoints about Trump, or for making corrections to the misinformation they posted, and they blocked me for my posts about Biden winning. I think one person unfriended me for suggesting his use of the “R” word was not cool.

To counter their unfriending me, I blocked them from seeing my accounts.

In February to observe my self-proclaimed “Forgiving February,” these people were unblocked. All they needed to do is send me a friend request and it would have been accepted.

I said in my initial post that life is too short to hate on each other because of social media posts. It is.

I am saddened to report that of the six people I was targeting, none of them took me up on my offer. So, these people are blocked again and unless I get an email from them asking for my friendship, they will remain blocked. Four of the six are relatives and two were friends of 20-30 years.

I hope they get to spend the rest of their lives only hearing views with which they agree…

ONE MORE THING:

There isn’t a single person on this planet who is entitled to treat you like shit. Remember that. – Unknown

  1. Jackie,
I fully agree with your position on Rosendale’s ignorance on the Ukraine aid situation. He is reprehensible and now we find his running partner Steve Daines is even worse, jeopardizing the Ukraine president’s safety and ignoring his specific requests. https://www.democraticunderground.com/100216444058
Might be some payback related to Daines Fourth of July appearance in Moscow a couple years ago. Putin and his ilk have long memories.

    • O-L-D: Sorry about the late approval, but your comment was stuck in SPAM. -JmB

  2. Jackie – Sorry you didn’t get better results from ‘Forgiving February’. Keep in mind that you can pick your friends, but not your relatives. I have a large, extended family and shirttail kin scattered over the whole country, and only a couple that I would have chosen as friends. The rest I regard as acquaintances, and just don’t bother with serious connection.

    • Thanks Fred – I appreciate it. I won’t lose any sleep over it. -JmB

  3. This Biden had/has a stutter is a lame excuse for his inability to speak clearly. Mike we’ve been watching his career since the 70’s. He was the Chair of the judiciary committee and didn’t seem to have a problem speaking his mind. He’s been gaffe prone for years. He’s was capable of numerous nasty retorts over the years. Loose dentures seems a more likely excuse.
