Today’s independent commentary deals with these issues:
- The Western Word Poll
- NFL Divisional Playoffs
Note: The normal “Monday Memo” column is a little shorter today as I am under the weather (non-COVID). I hope to be back to normal posting on Tuesday. -JmB
THE WESTERN WORD POLL:
The final four teams in the NFL playoffs are set. They are the Kansas City Chiefs and the Cincinnati Bengals from the AFC, and the Los Angeles Rams and the San Francisco 49ers from the NFC.
This week’s poll question asks, “Which two teams will meet in the Super Bowl?”
The results will be posted later this week.
NFL DIVISIONAL PLAYOFFS:
I have watched NFL football most of my life. This past weekend was the best weekend of football I have ever seen.
The Bengals beat the Titans 19-16 with a late field goal. The Titans were the number one seed in the AFC.
The 49ers beat the Packers 13-10 with a late field goal. The Packers were the number one seed in the NFC.
The Rams beat the Buccaneers 30-27 with a late field goal.
Then, my Chiefs came from behind to beat the Bills 42-36 in overtime. The Chiefs fell behind by three with 13 seconds left and drove down the field for a game-tying field goal with three seconds left. Then, in overtime, the Chiefs won the coin toss, and the Bills never got the ball as the Chiefs scored a touchdown.
The Chiefs were the only home team to win this weekend.
I am spoiled as a Chiefs fan the last few years. The Chiefs will host the AFC Conference Championship game for the fourth year in a row. We’ve made the playoffs every year since 2015. From 1998 to 2014 we only made the playoffs four times.
Mark your calendars:
- The Bengals play at Kansas City Sunday at 1:00 pm (Montana time) on CBS.
- The 49ers play at the LA Rams Sunday at 4:30 pm (Montana time) on FOX.
