The ballot is stronger than the bullet. – Abraham Lincoln
Today’s independent commentary deals with these people/issues:
- Campaign Lit (Final Update)
- My Election Day Predictions
- One More Thing
CAMPAIGN LIT (FINAL UPDATE):
As I normally do this time of year, I wanted to update readers about how much campaign literature I have received in the U.S. Mail, or that was left on my front door.
This week, although we voted and our ballots were accepted, we still received 25 pieces of campaign lit. There are three registered voters in my household.
For this campaign season, we received 192 pieces of literature.
Election Day is tomorrow (Tuesday). Please make sure you vote.
MY ELECTION DAY PREDICTIONS:
These are my predictions for the 2020 Election. My predictions do not mean I voted for or against the person or issue. As a matter of fact, I voted for Republicans and Democrats this year – so take that you partisan hacks!
CI-118/I-190:
These are about recreational marijuana. I predict it will pass and sometime next year when the rules are written and the sales start, Montana will be a little mellower.
LR 130:
This restricts a county, city, town, consolidated local government, or other local government unit’s authority to regulate the carrying of firearms. I predict LR-130 will be defeated meaning the “No” votes win.
An interesting thing about these referendums and initiatives is by reading who wrote the For/Against arguments in the Voter’s Guide can help one make a decision.
Supreme Court Justice #5:
I predict Laurie McKinnon (NP) will win.
Superintendent of Public Instruction:
I predict Melissa Romano (D) will win.
State Auditor:
I predict Troy Downing (R) will win.
Attorney General:
I predict Austin Knudsen (R) will win.
Secretary of State:
I predict Christi Jacobsen (R) will win.
Montana Governor:
I predict Greg Gianforte (R) will win.
There are going to be a lot of job openings in Helena with the first Republican Governor taking office since 2005.
Since the Republicans will have the Governor’s office and majorities in the legislature, we will see how long it takes them to form a circular firing squad and screw things up.
United States Representative:
I predict Kathleen Williams (D) will win.
I hope whoever wins this seat will stay in it long enough to gain some seniority.
United States Senator:
I predict Steve Daines (R) will win a close race.
President of the United States:
I predict Joe Biden (D) will win.
Of course, Trump will win Montana’s three electoral votes, but it won’t be anywhere close to the 20 points he won it by in 2016. Biden should secure more than 300 electoral votes as he cruises to victory.
There you have my predictions – please feel free to let me know your predictions. I do hope some of mine turn out to be wrong!
Later this week, I will let you know how I did.
