The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants. – Thomas Jefferson
Welcome to another exciting edition of Caught My Eye (CME).
CME is the once a week column that is posted every Friday morning. This is when I take a look at some of the stories I did not have time to write about during the week.
Here are the topics that “Caught My Eye” this week:
- Chris Christie
- November 4
- Monday/Tuesday
- Your “To Do” List
- One More Thing
CHRIS CHRISTIE:
The thing I enjoy about many of Donald Trump’s friends and supporters is that they are as dumb as a box of rocks.
From the Associated Press (AP):
Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie was unwittingly tricked into trolling the Republican candidate who is running for governor in Montana. Christie joined a social media site where he’s paid $200 to provide personalized video messages.
The AP went on to report that Christie told NJ Advance Media he received a request to encourage a man named Greg to return to New Jersey. It turned out the Greg was U.S. Rep. Greg Gianforte, who once lived in New Jersey and is running against Democrat Mike Cooney for Montana governor.
You can watch the Christie video HERE.
Crazy stuff happens during the last few days of campaigns. Be prepared. This weekend should be interesting. Don’t get fooled by fake news!
NOVEMBER 4:
Let’s say that we wake up on November 4 (Wednesday) and Donald Trump has been defeated by Joe Biden. Trump has already started tweeting about the election being rigged and that he won’t leave office because the Democrats cheated.
Trump’s followers feel the same way.
Trump has been laying the groundwork in case he loses. NBC reported:
“The biggest problem we have is if they cheat with the ballots. That’s my biggest problem,” he told supporters at the Phoenix Goodyear Airport this week. “That’s my only thing — that’s the only thing I worry about.”
The best thing we can do is make sure we vote and that our ballots make it to the elections office in time. Biden beating Trump soundly would do the trick, too.
In June I wrote:
The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that 34% of Likely U.S. Voters think the United States will experience a second civil war sometime in the next five years, but that includes only nine percent (9%) who say it’s Very Likely.
Amazingly, 34% is almost exactly the number of people who are strong Trump supporters.
Then there is this:
Back in October 2019, Georgetown University’s Institute of Politics and Public Service released the results of a poll saying the average voter believes the U.S. is two-thirds of the way to the edge of a civil war. On a 0-100 scale with 100 being “edge of a civil war,” the mean response is 67.23.
Back in August I wrote, “Stock up and pray.” This weekend might be a good time to do both.
MONDAY/TUESDAY:
For Monday’s column, I will be burning some incense and listening to some 60s music to help me make my political predictions. Stay tuned! I will also post the final numbers for the campaign literature I have received this cycle.
On Tuesday I will be posting a special “Election by the Numbers” column that should keep you occupied until the results start trickling in.
YOUR “TO DO” LIST:
Tuesday evening, I will be posting election results throughout the night on Twitter and Facebook until the cows come home!
What you need to do is follow me on Twitter @TheWesternWord or click HERE to “Like” The Western Word Facebook page where you will also be able to see the results.
I promise to get the results out quickly and before most everyone else.
Sometime Wednesday I will provide commentary about the results.
ONE MORE THING:
Make sure you vote.
Talk to your family, your friends, and your neighbors. Ask them if they have voted or if they are going to vote. Remind them that this is important!
