Caught My Eye…

Terrorist attacks can shake the foundations of our biggest buildings, but they cannot touch the foundation of America. These acts shatter steel, but they cannot dent the steel of American resolve. America was targeted for attack because we’re the brightest beacon for freedom and opportunity in the world. And no one will keep that light from shining. – President George W. Bush (09/11/01)

Welcome to another exciting edition of Caught My Eye (CME).

CME is the once a week column that is posted here every Friday morning. This is when I take a look at some of the stories I did not have time to write about during the week. There may be some sarcasm and pointed independent commentary so be warned!

Here are the topics that “Caught My Eye” this week:

  • AARP Poll
  • New Daines Ad
  • QAnon & Montana
  • Rage
  • One More Thing

AARP POLL:

According to the survey of 800 likely Montana voters, if the election were held today U.S. Senator Steve Daines (R) would get 50% of the vote and his challenger, Governor Steve Bullock (D) 47%. That means it’s pretty much a tie.

The surprising part of the poll is that Republican Donald Trump only leads Democratic challenger Joe Biden 50%-43%.

Maybe Trump’s lies are wearing thin with Montanans.

Check out the complete poll and methodology HERE.

NEW DAINES AD:

The Daily Caller is reporting that Republican Montana U.S. Senator Steve Daines will release an ad on September 11 featuring a former Navy SEAL (Robert O’Neill) involved in the raid that killed Osama Bin Laden.

You can view the ad HERE.

This endorsement should help Daines shore up his base.

QANON & MONTANA:

As I mentioned in yesterday’s column, the Associated Press is reporting that Vice President Mike Pence and top officials from President Donald Trump’s campaign are slated to attend a Montana fundraiser next week hosted by a couple who have expressed support for the QAnon conspiracy theory, according to an event invitation obtained by The Associated Press and a review of social media postings.

What is QAnon? According to Wikipedia:

QAnon is a far-right conspiracy theory alleging that a cabal of Satan-worshiping pedophiles running a global child sex-trafficking ring is plotting against President Donald Trump, who is battling them, leading to a “day of reckoning” involving the mass arrest of journalists and politicians.

Trump and Pence want to win the election so badly that they will take anyone’s votes.

Meanwhile, Montanans get tarnished again, this time with the help of the Vice President.

RAGE:

I’ve had a few days to digest the information from the newest book about Trump called “Rage.” It was written by Bob Woodward.

Just about anyone with half a brain knows that Donald Trump is a serial liar. In his book, Woodward shows us the lies and backs up his reporting with taped interviews. It was Trump in his own words.

It’s amazing just how much Trump lied to the country about the coronavirus.

If the tables were turned and a Democratic President did this, the cries of impeachment and resignation would be loud and clear. That’s the problem with politics these days; it is too partisan.

So there’s the smoking gun – Trump lied to the country and people died. If Trump would have been honest with us, fewer people would have died. He wanted people to remain calm. He failed.

Trump now calls a book that he interviewed for multiple times a “political hit job.” Is he that dumb?

As I write this column late Thursday night, we are now approaching 192,000 deaths in the United States. Remember, Trump said back in February, “We have it very much under control in this country.”

His reluctance to encourage people to wear masks has caused many people to get sick and die.

It baffles me how anyone can support Trump after this week. He is killing citizens with his poor leadership.

If you still support Trump, go to the comments section and tell me and my readers why. I’d like to know what you think of him lying so much. You can even do it anonymously.

I hope that there’s a “rage” in America like never before and we send Trump packing in November.

ONE MORE THING:

NFL football is back! My Kansas City Chiefs beat the Houston Texans 34-20 last night.
