Honesty is the first chapter in the book of wisdom. – Thomas Jefferson
Today’s commentary deals with:
- U.S. Senator Steve Daines
- Tribune Follow-up
- President Donald J. Trump
- Property Taxes by State
- Final Thought
Daines the Elite:
The Hill sent a reporter to Montana and recently conducted an interview with U.S. Senator Steve Daines (R-Mont.) at the Big Sky Ski Resort.
The first paragraph kind of sets the scene:
Big Sky, Mont. – Steve Daines, Montana’s tech-savvy junior senator, knows he sometimes lives in a bubble — like when he’s riding on a high-speed chairlift equipped with heated seats and a blue-tinted wind shield, at the Big Sky ski resort.
Yep, he’s just like the rest of us. The only thing that would have made this story sweeter would have been if Greg Gianforte was with him.

The Great Falls Tribune has a follow-up to my story (or another version) about U.S. Senator Steve Daines (R-Mont.), Delta Airlines, and the NRA.
You can read their version of the story HERE.
Trump the Hero:
Several sources are reporting that President Donald Trump said Monday that he would have charged into a Florida school during the shooting there earlier this month even if he were unarmed. Trump reportedly said, “I really believe I’d run in there even if I didn’t have a weapon.” (NBC)
Someone posted those comments on Facebook and asked the question: “What about his bone spurs?”
In case you forgot, during the Vietnam war Trump received a “1-Y medical deferment” for bone spurs in his feet exempting him from military service. (NY Times)
Property Taxes by State:
My friends at WalletHub have posted a “Property Taxes by State” column. It’s pretty interesting.
Montana ranks 20th in real estate property taxes. For vehicle property taxes, Montana comes in at 34.
