The Wednesday Read: Tester/Booker, Canada, Carson, & Guns

When one cow spies on another cow it’s called a steak out. – Unknown

It’s the last day of February and spring begins on March 20!

Today’s topics are:

  • Tester/Booker & Big Air
  • O Canada!
  • Ben Carson’s Furniture
  • Dick’s Sporting Goods

Tester & Booker & Big Air:

Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) and Sen. Jon Tester (D-MT) played an “intense” 1-on-1 basketball game to help save Net Neutrality.

I think Tester got into the air on a couple of his jump shots. Color me impressed. Also, there were no easy lay-ups which is old school and very cool.

The reason they played the game is to bring attention to Net Neutrality – and that we need a free and open internet. They are correct.

Enjoy the video!

We Like Canada:

Gallup Polling is reporting this morning that Canada once again ranks as the country or territory that Americans view most favorably, while North Korea ranks the least favorably among 22 countries on the world stage.

Check out the complete list HERE where you can also see what some of the countries think of the United States.

By the way, I don’t care that much for Canada…

Ben Carson’s Furniture:

Benjamin Solomon Carson, Sr., is an American neurosurgeon. He is also the United States Secretary of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for President Donald Trump.

In following Carson over the years I’ve found he is a very intelligent person, but he lacks common sense.

This was evident recently when it was discovered and reported by the New York Times that Carson’s agency spent $31,000 on a new dining room set for Carson’s office.

Someone with common sense and someone whose agency “plans to slash HUD’s programs for the homeless, elderly and poor” would think twice before doing this.

For Carson, his spokesperson said that Carson “didn’t know the table had been purchased,” but does not believe the cost was too steep and does not intend to return it.

According to the NY Times, the table has not yet arrived in the Secretary’s 10th-floor office suite. That means there is still time for Carson to do the right thing, use some common sense, and cancel the purchase.

Dick’s Sporting Goods:

The Associated Press (AP) and several other sources are reporting that Dick’s Sporting Goods will immediately end sales of assault-style rifles and high-capacity magazines at all of its stores and ban the sale of all guns to anyone under 21.

Good for them.

I can’t imagine the feeling a store owner and employees would have if they were the ones that legally sold an assault-style rifle to someone who used it to murder school children.

Now, thanks to Dick’s Sporting Goods, it will be just a little bit harder for folks to buy an assault-style rifle.

I applaud Dick’s Sporting Goods for their decision.
