Monday’s Quick Hits

Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I’m not sure about the former. – Albert Einstein

Today’s quick hits deal with:

  • Total Solar Eclipse
  • Trump & Afghanistan
  • Turnover Rate

Total Solar Eclipse:

This is it! Today is “Total Solar Eclipse Day 2017!” The next one in the USA will not occur until April 2024 – which will be well into Donald Trump’s second term…

Here are some of my deep thoughts about the event.

If I have learned anything so far about the total solar eclipse, it’s this:

“Don’t be an idiot – use proper eye protection when looking at the eclipse.”

I should have been a welder, and then I would have a welder’s helmet to view the eclipse through. Check to make sure you have the right type!

Local television station KRTV has a “solar eclipse” countdown clock, so instead of waiting for Joe Biden to say it, I will proclaim this a big ^&%$ deal!

One time my wife said I created an eclipse when I got between her and the sun.

In the viewing path, the media reports that people are camping and waiting for the eclipse. It reminds me of the scene in the movie “Independence Day” when they were camping in the desert waiting for the aliens. That did not turn out well.

If you’re looking for some “eclipse” music, here is Bonnie Tyler’s “Total Eclipse of the Heart” for your listening pleasure:

I’m sorry if that song brings back memories of being dumped in middle school.

Let’s be careful out there today – and don’t look at the eclipse without proper eye protection because mom was right when she said:

“It’s all fun and games until someone loses an eye.”

For all the information you will ever need to know about the eclipse, visit the USA Today website HERE.

If this is truly the end of the world, then as Desmond from the TV show “Lost” used to say, “See you on the other side, brother.”

Trump & Afghanistan:

Not wanting to be outdone by the solar eclipse, President Donald Trump scheduled a primetime speech to the nation tonight to talk about his plans for the United States involvement in Afghanistan.

Several sources are saying Trump will announce that he is placing more troops in Afghanistan. (Reuters)

We’ve been in Afghanistan for 16 years. We’ve lost too many of our nation’s finest there and spent way too much money. It’s past time for us to get out.

Turnover Rate:

Finally, there’s this headline from The Babylon Bee (satire):
