Four Things for Wednesday…

Through chunks of hail, flash floods, and tears from having my tomato crop (my one and only plant) destroyed in the storm, nothing can keep me from posting my daily column!

Are you ready?

Here are four things you need to read today:

  • Trump Self-Destruction Tour
  • Bernie vs Debbie
  • The Blago Appeal
  • Elway vs Osweiler

Trump Self-Destruction Tour:

The Donald Trump self-destruction tour continued on Tuesday. Trump is also doing a great job at destroying the Republican Party. The Associated Press reported:

Speaking at a rally in Wilmington, North Carolina, the Republican nominee incorrectly said his general election opponent wants to “essentially abolish the Second Amendment.”

He continued: “By the way, if she gets to pick her judges, nothing you can do, folks. Although the Second Amendment people, maybe there is, I don’t know.”

Is Trump dumb enough to suggest that someone should shoot Hillary Clinton? His campaign denies it and tries to explain it, but voters will have to decide for themselves. One of his advisors already said that Clinton should be shot for treason.

So Trump does what he does best: blame the media.

U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren (Clinton supporter) posted this on Twitter:

@realDonaldTrump makes death threats because he’s a pathetic coward who can’t handle the fact that he’s losing to a girl.

Former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords, who survived an assassination attempt, posted this on Twitter:

When candidates descend into insult, our politics follow suit. When they affirm violence, we should fear that violence will follow.

The Secret Service even commented about Trump’s remarks. Trump seems to be the gift that keeps on giving…

Bernie vs Debbie:

It looks like former Presidential candidate Bernie Sanders is still ticked off at the former head of the Democratic Party, Debbie Wasserman Schultz.

Sanders sent a fundraising email yesterday asking his followers to donate to Wasserman Schultz’s primary opponent, Tim Canova.

In the email, Sanders said:

This race is very important for Our Revolution because if we can win this tough fight in Florida, it will send a clear message about the power of our grassroots movement that will send shockwaves through the political and media establishments. The latest poll shows us within reach.

It’s good to see that Democrats have those fights, too. I like Bernie, but I also like Wasserman Schultz.

The Blago Appeal:

Former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich had his appeal of the 14-year sentence denied by a federal judge on Tuesday. His projected release date is 2024. (AP)

Blagojevich has kept busy in the low-security prison – it’s reported he helped form a band called “The Jailhouse Rockers.”

Maybe President Obama (whose senate seat Blago tried to sell) will give Blago a pardon before he leaves office. I’d have no problem with that. He’s served enough time already. Maybe they should use prison for people who have committed real crimes. #FreeBlago

Elway vs Osweiler:

I have never cared for former Denver quarterback and current general manager of the Broncos, John Elway. That’s mostly because I am a lifelong Kansas City Chiefs fan, but also because I’ve always felt Elway was sort of a crybaby.

Elway went after his former quarterback, Brock Osweiler, in the media recently saying he was surprised Osweiler got “bent out of shape” when he was benched by the Broncos. (CBS Sports)

Osweiler, who is now with the Texans, handled it better than Elway would have at that point of his career. Osweiler responded with “The only thing I would say is what kind of competitor wouldn’t want to play in that situation?” (CBS Sports)

Amen to that – that reminds me of the quote from the movie, The Replacements:

Quarterback Shane Falco: “I want the ball.”
Coach Jimmy McGinty: “Winners always do.”

That’s the same movie with the quote I’ve used a few times, “Pain heals. Chicks dig scars. Glory lasts forever.” (Shane Falco)
