Thursday Numbers

It’s the first of December.   Oh my!

It’s been a couple of weeks since Thursday Numbers was published, but we’re back with all the numbers behind the news!

In case you’re new to The Western Word, Thursday Numbers is where we kind of countdown the numbers in the news and the stories behind them – with some commentary.

Today I take a look at some polls, Tebow, unemployment, buttocks, a birthday, columns, cows, turkeys, bowling, and much more – so read on…

That’s how many followers Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow has on Twitter @TimTebow.

That’s how many NEW claims for unemployment compensation were filed last week.

One would think more people would be working during the holiday season, but it did not happen.

That’s how much money an elderly man said “he mistakenly left in the pocket of a suit he gave to a Goodwill store in western Illinois.”

Thrift shops around the world are checking pockets now…

That’s how many followers the Chick-fil-A cows have on Twitter @EatMorChikin.

Love the cows…maybe they can parachute on to the Montana State or University of Montana football fields some day…

That’s how many followers Butterball (turkey) has on Twitter @butterball.

My Butterball turkey was yummy this year…follow them for great ideas…

On this date in 1963 the Beatles released their first single, “I Want to Hold Your Hand,” in the United States.

I enjoy Beatles music…

On this date in 1955, Rosa Parks defied the law by refusing to give up her seat to a white man aboard a Montgomery, Ala., city bus.

I salute Ms. Parks – a great American.

That’s how many columns or “posts” (counting this one) there are at the fantastic website called

I’d like to take a moment to quote from a wonderful song by the classic rock band, Missouri, “And that road goes on and on into the sunset. And my destiny is bound to move me on.”

The Western Word will go on and on into the sunset…

Former Congressman Rick Hill leads the GOP field for Montana Governor with 37% in a poll recently released by Public Policy Polling.

Ken Miller was second with 10%, so that is a big lead for a field with so many candidates (nine).

That’s how many bowl games there will be this football season.

It all starts around December 17, so get your remotes ready!

That’s how many shotgun pellets were removed from the buttocks of a Utah man who was shot by his dog while hunting.  I repeat, “Shot by his dog while hunting.”

The rest of the story can be found HERE.

That story reminds me of this Forrest Gump quote, “Bit me right in the buttocks. They said it was a million dollar wound, but the army must keep that money ’cause I still haven’t seen a nickel of that million dollars.”

GOP Presidential candidate Rick Perry told a group of college students, “Those of you that will be 21 by November the 12th, I ask for your support and your vote.”

Uhhh…what about the 18-20 year-old students, Governor?

Today is my daughter’s 14th birthday…Happy Birthday sweetie!

I feel old…but I still remember my 14th birthday.  I was in second or third grade….

That’s how many Bowl Championship Series games there will be this season.  They are: Rose Bowl, Fiesta Bowl, Sugar Bowl, Orange Bowl, and the BCS National Championship Game.

Millions of dollars will be received by each team for being selected to play in one of these games.  It’s all about the money…
