Welcome to the big column to end the week, “Caught My Eye” (CME)!
If you are a first-time visitor, welcome! CME is the once a week column that is posted here every Friday morning. This is when I take a look at some of the stories I did not have time to write about during the week. There may be some sarcasm and pointed independent commentary so be warned!
Here are the topics that “Caught My Eye” this week:

Welcome to the big show! If you are a first-time visitor, “Caught My Eye” has been posted here every Friday morning since October 2010! This column is where I take a look at some of the stories I did not have time to write about during the week. Sometimes I throw in a touch of snarkiness to make you smile – or to irritate you just a little – maybe both.
Today I write about Gallatin County Republicans and the Montana Democrats, the Missoula Gun Ordinance, Miller endorses Gianforte, Badger Guns, local TV News, Texas Governor Greg Abbott, Blue Jays’ Jose Bautista & Royals’ Kendrys Morales, and much more!
It was primary election day on Tuesday and that means it’s almost as great a Super Bowl Sunday for me! I hope you voted for the candidate of your choice! If you were a candidate, thanks for running.
Here are some of my thoughts about the main races: U.S. Senate and U.S. House.
It did not take long for Representative Steve Daines to win the Republican primary for U.S. Senate here in Montana. The race was called for Daines around 8:35 p.m.
A few minutes after 9:00 p.m. Democratic Senator John Walsh was declared the winner of the Democratic primary for U.S. Senate. In a statement received here at The Western Word (TWW) Walsh said, “We know what’s at stake with this election, and we will keep holding broken Washington – from our own Congressman to the White House – accountable.”
I did not receive a statement from the Daines campaign.
One day until primary Election Day here in Montana! Are you ready? ARE. YOU. READY?
Don’t forget to vote tomorrow (Tuesday). Montana voter information, including how to register to vote, can be found HERE.
And, if you want to know what’s going on, don’t forget to follow me on Twitter @TheWesternWord on election night for updates! If you don’t have Twitter, my Twitter feed is here on the right side of the page at TheWesternWord.com.
It’s been an interesting primary election season, probably one for the history books because of the contested primary races and the number of ads on television. Here are some thoughts.
Welcome to the 199th edition of “Caught My Eye!” Buckle up!
PLEASE NOTE: Take a moment this weekend to remember the veterans who paid the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country and pray for their families and friends.
If you are a first-time visitor, “Caught My Eye” is posted right here every Friday morning! This is when I take a quick look at some of the stories I did not have time to write about during the week. I often throw in a touch of sarcasm to make you smile – or to irritate you just a little – or both.
Today I write about Walsh’s new ad called “Melissa,” Daines’ new ad called “Rebekah,” Montana ExpoPark and the Montana Attorney General, Zinke responds, Daines does not, Obama sends a deputy to help veterans, a new poll about the military, plus we have a winner who is making Montana proud!
It was a tough weekend here in Western Word country. It snowed a little less than four inches on Sunday and, although it melted, it made for a gloomy Mothers Day.
To make matters worse, I did not get drafted or even called by any NFL teams during the draft this weekend (I had even “bulked up” some). This is something like the 30th year I have not been drafted…
There’s good news! I am here to write! Today I write about a Steve Daines campaign ad, and I write about Ryan Zinke earning a big endorsement. Plus, Gallup polling says we’re not that enthused about the 2014 elections.
