Caught My Eye…

I always knew I’d get old. How fast it happened was a bit of a surprise, though. -Unknown

Welcome to the big column to end the week “Caught My Eye” (CME)!

If you are a first-time visitor, welcome! CME is the once a week column that is posted here every Friday morning. This is when I take a look at some of the stories I did not have time to write about during the week. There may be some sarcasm and pointed commentary so be warned!

Here are the topics that “Caught My Eye” this week:

  • Corey, Corey, Corey
  • Montana Green Party
  • That Damned Wall
  • NFL Playoffs

The Sunday Message

“If a man watches three football games in a row, he should be declared legally dead.” -Erma Bombeck

I’m guilty. I have watched three football games in a row.

According to a poll from when presented with the statement, “I would skip a weekly worship service in order to watch my favorite football team” 68% of those polled disagreed with that statement. Only 15% said they “somewhat” or “strongly” agreed with that statement.

You can read the survey results HERE.

I was a little surprised that 68% said they would not skip the service. They must not like football as much as I do!

In the 2000s we have seen churches “cater” to the needs of the people more than ever. In the past most church services were on Sunday morning and evening. Some had Wednesday evening services.

Now many churches have multiple services on Sunday, some services on Saturday night, and many provide either live feeds of the services over the internet or a video link of the service soon after.

The church I attend has a 9:00 a.m. service and an 11:00 a.m. service and Sunday evening service. The NFL games start at 11:00 a.m. here in the Mountain Time Zone, so I attend the 9:00 a.m. service so I can get home in time for the game. I am happy there’s an 11:00 a.m. service as this keeps the Pastor from going on and on and on.

I know, I know, I should not have written that last sentence…

Have a great week!

## END ##

For many people the fact that your NFL team’s season is over won’t set in until next week when your team is not playing.

For twelve teams, the journey continues.

The Patriots, Broncos, Steelers, Colts, Bengals, and Ravens made the playoffs for the AFC. The Seahawks, Packers, Cowboys, Panthers, Cardinals, and Lions made the playoffs for the NFC.

Just Football…

As sports fans we’ve all heard, “That’s why they play the game” several times. This past weekend the NFL made that expression true once again – the Chiefs beat the undefeated Packers and the winless Colts won a game.

If you are stopping by for the first time, “Just Football” is the Tuesday column where I take a look at some of the games ranging from the NFL all the way down to High School – and offer some commentary – and I also look ahead at upcoming games!

This week I take a look at an impressive team win, a note to some fans, games to watch, a monkey and a dog, bowl games, a holy cow stat in Division III football, and much more! Continue reading
