MT House 2014: Two Candidates Impress

We’re less than a month from the deadline (March 10) to file for office in Montana. The last few days leading up to March 10 should be interesting because there are almost always some surprises.

Two candidates, one Democrat and one Republican, for Montana’s U.S. House (at-large) seat have impressed me so far. These two candidates have separated themselves from the field – a field that will probably have more primary candidates than any other race in 2014.

Of course, we’re a long way from the June 3 primary, so anything can happen, but at this time I don’t think Montana could go wrong if either candidate was elected.

Caught My Eye…

You did not think a little cold weather would keep me from writing another “Caught My Eye” did you? No way! I’ll give up writing “Caught My Eye” when you pry my cold, dead hands from the keyboard…

If this is your first time visiting The Western Word, the “Caught My Eye” column is posted every Friday morning! This is when I take a quick look at some of the stories I did not have time to write about during the week. I often throw in a touch of sarcasm just to make you smile – or to irritate you just a little.

Today I write about Nelson Mandela, Champ Edmunds & Steve Daines, GOP Tutoring, ObamaCare, Seven Percent, plus we have two winners who are Making Montana Proud!

MT House 2014: We Have a Candidate!

John Lewis is first.

Democrat John Lewis announced that he is running for Montana’s at-large U.S. House seat. Steve Daines currently occupies that seat. It seems that almost everyone is waiting for Daines to make a decision about running for U.S. Senate before they decide what to do.

Almost everyone except John Lewis – and you at least have to respect that. Lewis is running for U.S. House no matter what Daines does. This is somewhat refreshing considering what we’ve been seeing so far this election season – everyone waiting for the 800-pound gorilla to make a move.

Lee Newspapers reported that the announcement was “one of the first definitive moves in what’s become a political waiting game for Montana’s two major electoral contests in 2014…”   Continue reading
