Happy Monday – there are only 15 days left until Election Day 2014 – so the end is in sight!

Today I take a quick look at the debates, I write about a special e-mail I received, and I spotted a political sign with a special message.

Caught My Eye…

Thanks for visiting! For those keeping track, there are just 39 days until the November election!

If you are a first-time visitor, “Caught My Eye” is posted right here every Friday morning! This is when I take a look at some of the stories I did not have time to write about during the week. I often throw in a touch of sarcasm to make you smile – or to irritate you just a little – or maybe both.

Today I write about Ryan Zinke & John Lewis, debating, Eric Holder, Bob Seger, people who need to get off Facebook, follow me, plus we have a winner who is making Montana proud!

MT Senate 2014: 14 Debates?

Last week I wrote that there should always be at least two debates for the federal candidates after Labor Day.

Yesterday, U.S. Senate candidate Amanda Curtis (D) challenged U.S. Congressman (and Senate candidate) Steve Daines (R) and Roger Roots (L) to 14 debates. Happy Tuesday! It’s a potpourri of political news!

Today I write about the U.S. Senate and U.S House debates, the new campaign ad from John Lewis, Steve Daines/Ryan Zinke & Veterans, and a $500 per hour lawyer. There’s a lot more so read on.

By the way, The Western Word is once again on Facebook. Please “Like” The Western Word page HERE. I promise to make it enjoyable.

Debate #2: Obama Comes Alive

A few minutes into last night’s debate, I noticed that President Barack Obama had a very determined look in his eyes. When the debate was over Obama was the clear winner.

Slugfest. Intense. Rough and tumble. Brawl. Sparks flying. Best Presidential debate ever. Romney battling with the moderator. The “Binders full of Women” debate. These are a few descriptions that I heard after the debate from around the country.

The final results from The Western Word poll have President Obama winning the debate 54% to Mitt Romney’s 31%. 15% thought it was a tie. Thanks to all who participated. CBS and CNN also showed Obama winning.

So now we go to the “rubber match” of this series which will be held Monday night in Florida. Bob Schieffer, Host of Face the Nation on CBS, is the moderator. The topic for the night is foreign policy. Continue reading

Thursday Numbers

Welcome to another edition of Thursday Numbers here at The Western Word!  Congratulations are in order because you’ve almost made it to another weekend.

For the new folks dropping by for the first time, Thursday Numbers is where I take a look at the numbers behind the news and provide some “Western Word” commentary with them.  This information can be used to amaze your friends, family, and co-workers.  People have been known to be cooler to their friends, family, and co-workers after reading (and using) this information.

This week I take a look at the numbers dealing with the Iraq War, unemployment, Christmas cards, winning, distracted driving, network contracts, followers, ages, debates, playing with the band, and a lot more.   Continue reading
