CAMPAIGN MAILERS UPDATE:

Throughout the campaign season, I keep a close eye on all the political literature that comes my way—both the mailers flooding my mailbox and the flyers left on my doorstep.

Some of the better mailers will be shown here at The Western Word.

By last week, my campaign mailer count sat at 33. Over the past seven days, I picked up 7 more pieces, bringing the grand total to 40 mailers as of Tuesday, October 27.

Please make sure you save your mailers and recycle them!

BODNAR HIT PIECE:

One of my readers pointed out that Breitbart.com posted a story about a large (legal) donation to Independent candidate Seth Bodnar, who is running for U.S. Senate in Montana.

The Breitbart article had a masterfully framed lead paragraph. It packed a dual punch by tying the donor directly to Jeffrey Epstein and explicitly recalling the federal sex discrimination lawsuit filed during Bodnar’s presidency at the University of Montana.

It was kind of like a double whammy!

Here it is:

LinkedIn co-founder and Democrat megadonor Reid Hoffman, who has acknowledged visiting convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein’s private island, contributed the maximum legal amount of $7,000 to Montana independent U.S. Senate candidate Seth Bodnar. Bodnar served as University of Montana president when 18 female employees filed a federal sex discrimination lawsuit alleging unequal treatment and a workplace culture that favored men.

Since Breitbart is a far-right publication, I started thinking the race for U.S. Senate in Montana might be closer than we think, so they needed a hit piece to help Republican Kurt Alme get across the finish line.

Finally, just about every election season, someone points out that a person with questionable character has donated to someone they want to see defeated. Then there are calls to send the donation back.

When I was doing research for this post, I stumbled upon this piece of information:

The U.S. campaign finance system does not have a “character clause” or any legal mechanism to block political donations based on a donor’s controversial past, personal reputation, or associations. (Source)

If that were the case, many donors would be banned!

UNIVERSITY OF PROVIDENCE:

As a supporter and alumnus of the University of Providence (formerly the University of Great Falls), I was shocked to read the opening sentence of their newsletter:

With deep sadness, we share that the University of Providence Board of Trustees voted today to close the University at the conclusion of the 2026–2027 academic year.

The college/university has been around since 1932. The University’s final day of instruction will be August 20, 2027.

My prayers go out to the employees and students of UP.

It will be interesting to see what is done with the massive, beautiful campus.

TRUMP’S ELECTION MONITORS:

You knew it was going to happen.

In case you missed it, President Donald Trump’s Department of Justice is deploying approximately 1,000 federal monitors across all 50 states for the November 3, 2026, midterm elections. (Source)

This deployment is clearly a coordinated attempt to disrupt the vote. When the political tide turns, and MAGA candidates lose their grip on power, get ready for the inevitable outcry over “rigged elections” and “corrupt officials.”

ARCHITECTURAL ADVICE:

During a Monday night rally in Corinth, Mississippi, an unidentified audience member interrupted President Trump’s campaign rally and yelled:

“Shove that ballroom up your fat ass.”

Security quickly escorted the man out of the arena. Trump responded by telling him to “go home,” while claiming without evidence that the protester had been paid $250 by George Soros. (Source)

ONE MORE THING:

I remember when I was a kid, you could walk into the store with a dollar and come home with three bags of chips, two candy bars, and a cold drink.

Now? They have cameras everywhere.
