MONTANA SUPREME COURT JUSTICE #4:

The Montana Free Press (MTFP) is doing an outstanding job in covering the campaign season here in Montana. I applaud them for their work.

Recently, the MTFP posted a story about the two candidates for Montana Supreme Court Justice #4, Amy Eddy and Dan Wilson.

For me, this is a no-brainer: Amy Eddy should be our next Montana Supreme Court Justice. 

I’ve covered this race before, and my stance remains unchanged: I want an independent judge on the Montana Supreme Court, not a politician. In my view, Dan Wilson has deeply compromised his impartiality by aligning so closely with the Montana Republican Party. Campaign filings show Wilson accepted a $20,000 contribution from the state GOP, and he recently served as the keynote speaker for the party’s Winter Kickoff event in Great Falls. A nonpartisan judiciary requires justices who are beholden to the law, not a political party—and I cannot vote for a candidate who sells out their independence. 

Eddy says that “On the Supreme Court, I will protect our freedoms, guard our Constitution, hold criminals accountable, and apply the law fairly. I believe deeply that we must keep politics out of the courtroom.” 

The MTFP reported:

In early 2026, Wilson spoke at a GOP event in Great Falls where he railed against the Montana Supreme Court’s alleged leftward tilt. He’s since taken financial contributions from the state Republican Party — contributions made allowable by a new law passed during the last legislative session.

THE OFFICIAL STATE GUN:

In case you missed it, Idaho is heading to the polls on November 3, 2026, to vote on a unique new ballot measure: establishing an official “state gun.” 

I imagine Montana won’t be far behind. 

The Idaho Capitol Sun reports:

The advisory question will say: Which of the following guns should be designated as the state gun of Idaho? Please choose only one answer.

• Winchester Model 1894 (.30-30)
• Winchester Model 1873 (.44-40)
• 1873 Colt Single Action Army Revolver (.45 Colt)
• M1 Garand rifle (.30-06)
• Colt M1911 .45 automatic Colt pistol (.45 ACP)
• Remington Model 700 bolt-action rifle (.30-06)

In order to make a specific firearm the official state gun, the state Legislature would need to approve a separate law after the election.

I am surprised that a “Red Ryder Carbine-action 200-shot Range Model Air Rifle” did not make the list. It was the choice of Ralphie Parker in the movie “A Christmas Story.”  Maybe Montana will consider it? 

TAYLOR, TRAVIS, NIKKI, & RICK:

In an opening on Sunday Night Football, Nikki Glaser said, “When you are on top of your game, everybody roots for your downfall. People love a winner until they win too much.” (Video)

Great Falls City Commissioner Rick Tryon’s long-standing habit of trolling Taylor Swift has officially expanded to include Travis Kelce. After comedian Nikki Glaser kicked off a segment on the couple and the Kansas City Chiefs, Tryon chimed in online, stating the intro made him “already puking a little.”

In the first two weeks of this NFL season, the Chiefs were on Monday Night Football and Sunday Night Football. 

The Monday night game became the most-watched Week 1 game in ESPN’s Monday Night Football era (2006–present) (23.2 million viewers). 

The Chiefs-Colts Week 2 Sunday Night Football overtime thriller averaged 24.3 million viewers across NBC and Peacock. It was the most-watched Week 2 SNF game since 2015. 

I should probably cut Tryon some slack; I think he is a Minnesota Vikings fan. That is hard work. When you’re trapped in an endless cycle of 0-4 Super Bowl heartbreak, watching other teams celebrate is bound to make you “puke a little.” Hang in there, Rick—if the Vikings ever win a championship, they might finally make it to the big leagues of pop-culture relevance.
