Tuesday’s Quick Hits

Welcome! Here are the topics for today’s common sense commentary:

  • Primary Election Day 2026
  • Katie Lane Nomination
  • Anti-Weaponization Fund
  • Kennedy Center & Drone Port
  • One More Thing

PRIMARY ELECTION DAY 2026:

Today, (Tuesday, June 2), is Primary Election Day in Montana. Don’t forget to vote!

Candidates – Thank you for your willingness to serve our community and state by running for office!

During this primary election season, one actual candidate came to my door. Another volunteer or paid campaign staffer stopped by and dropped off some literature.

The final count on campaign mailers received through the mail or left on my door this primary season stands at 83. They will be recycled.

KATIE LANE NOMINATION:

It appears that today (June 2), the U.S. Senate will vote on the nomination of Kathleen S. Lane, of Montana, to be United States District Judge for the District of Montana.

From the United States Senate Executive Calendar

Ordered, That upon the conclusion of morning business on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, the Senate proceed to executive session to resume consideration of the nomination of Kathleen S. Lane, of Montana, to be United States District Judge for the District of Montana. Ordered further, That at 11:15 a.m., notwithstanding Rule XXII, the post-cloture time with respect to the Lane nomination be expired and the Senate vote on confirmation of the nomination.

The Republican majority must feel they have the votes to confirm Lane.

ANTI-WEAPONIZATION FUND:

The Hill reports that the Trump administration will scrap its nearly $1.8 billion “anti-weaponization” fund amid pushback from GOP members of Congress and a lingering court battle demanding an explanation for the arrangement.

Good. This plan had “slush fund” written all over it from the beginning. I was pleased to read that Majority Leader John Thune came out against the fund.

I don’t trust Trump on this. He probably has other ideas, like waiting until the midterm election is over.

KENNEDY CENTER & DRONE PORT:

I was happy to hear that a federal judge ruled Friday that President Donald Trump’s name was illegally added to the Kennedy Center and blocked the administration from closing the cultural and arts venue for major renovations — the latest legal setback for Trump’s efforts to leave his personal mark on the landscape of the nation’s capital. (AP)

The Kennedy Center has been open since 1971 and has done fine without Trump.

Trump is now saying that the new ballroom will also contain a drone port. On social media, Trump showed photos of the drone port.

The DronePort at the White House Ballroom will be, perhaps, the most sophisticated anywhere in the World! It will safeguard our Nation’s Capital, Washington, D.C., long into the future.

Beam me up, Scotty!

ONE MORE THING:

I don’t carry a knife for protection. I carry a knife in case I find a cake.
