Thursday Thoughts

Welcome! Here are the topics for today’s common sense commentary:

NEW WESTERN DISTRICT POLL:

I was surprised when I saw the results of a poll released by the Montana Free Press (MTFP) yesterday.

The poll found that Republican Christi Jacobsen and Democrat Ryan Busse are the most favorable candidates in Montana’s Western District primaries.

The MTFP reported:

In the poll, conducted in late April and early May, 32% of respondents said they viewed Busse favorably and 27% said they viewed Jacobson favorably. But among Democrats, 75% of respondents said they had a favorable impression of Busse, while 55% said they had a favorable impression of Sam Forstag and 47% said they had a favorable view of Russell Cleveland, two of the other Democratic candidates. Among Republicans, Jacobson had a 41% favorability rating while candidate Aaron Flint had a 40% rating.

The MTFP also pointed out that President Trump endorsed Flint, which could have some weight at the ballot box. According to the poll, 55% of Republican voters in the state are more likely to vote for a candidate if Trump has endorsed them.

CAMPAIGN CALLS:

Besides getting a large batch of campaign literature in the mail, my phone has been busy. If my math is correct, I have been receiving 5-10 calls/texts per day.

I have an iPhone that handles calls very well. If someone calls me who is in my contacts, then the call gets through, and my phone rings. If the number is not in my contacts, like most telemarketing and campaign calls, then my phone will not ring. On the caller’s end, they will hear a few standard rings (or just one ring) before being automatically sent straight to my voicemail.

So, take that!

ROCKY MOUNTAIN LABS:

On May 13, far-right political activist, conspiracy theorist, and internet personality, Laura Loomer, posted a message on X about Rocky Mountain Labs in Hamilton, Montana:

Justin Goodman @JustinRGoodman of White Coat Waste @WhiteCoatWaste just joined me to expose a DISGUSTING NIH @NIH cover up involving biological sabotage and Ebola infected monkeys in Montana.

The NIH is covering up a lab accident where a staffer was bitten by a monkey carrying a deadly ebola like virus that causes your body to rot from the inside out.

Montana’s junior U.S. Senator, Tim Sheehy, responded to Loomer’s post:

My staff will be looking into these allegations. If they are accurate, this is a massive breach of trust with the people of Montana.

Lee Newspapers reported about the Republican concerns this way:

Last week, Montana U.S. Sen. Tim Sheehy joined fellow congressional Republicans in calling for scrutiny of Hamilton’s Rocky Mountain Labs, the government research lab and perennial target from the right for its studies of viruses and infectious disease.

“Perennial target” is pure poetry. Naturally, the terminally gullible Sheehy is right on cue, burning through time and cash to chase yet another imaginary conspiracy. Quick, someone fetch the Tin Foil Hat award—he’s practically begging for it.

FEELING SAFER:

I don’t know about you, but I am feeling much safer today after former Cuban President Raúl Castro was criminally indicted by the United States Department of Justice.

Castro is 94 years old.

Someone said that the Trump administration is doing all it can to keep the Epstein files out of the news, and this is their latest attempt.

Reuters reports that the charges against Castro and five fighter pilots in the Cuban military stem from a 1996 incident in which Cuban jets shot down planes operated by a group of Cuban exiles.

If this is so important, why is Trump just getting to it now? He had his whole first term, and no other Presidents, Republican or Democrat, since 1996 have cared enough to do anything.

I suppose we should get ready to see our military kidnap Castro.

ONE MORE THING:

I heard what you did for a Klondike Bar. Call me.
