Welcome to The Wednesday Read! Here are today’s topics:

- Another Drunk Legislator
- Gianforte the Dietitian
- Trump Endorses Paxton
- One More Thing
TWO ENDORSEMENTS:
First, MT-01 Republican candidate Aaron Flint received a written endorsement from President Donald Trump via his Truth Social account. (Source)
Just the other day, Trump cut a 2:00-minute endorsement for Flint and posted it on Truth Social. Check it out HERE.
Trump has been riding quite a winning streak with his endorsements in the primaries so far. We’ll see if it continues through June 2 in the Montana primary.
ANOTHER DRUNK LEGISLATOR:
The Helena Independent Record (IR) is reporting about another Montana state legislator getting caught driving drunk.
The IR reports that Montana Rep. Jade Sooktis, a Democrat from Lame Deer, was charged earlier this month with aggravated driving under the influence after allegedly operating a vehicle while severely intoxicated at a gas station in Colstrip.
The IR also reports that Sooktis pleaded not guilty in Colstrip City Court on May 12, according to the Colstrip City Court Judge. The charge is more serious than a standard DUI; It can be applied when a person has a blood alcohol level more than twice the legal limit of .08%. Sooktis had a blood alcohol level of .234% when arrested on April 30, according to the affidavit written by Colstrip police officer Don Purdon.
Public service requires a commitment to protect the community. By operating a vehicle while intoxicated, Sooktis has demonstrated a disqualifying disregard for human life. Her immediate resignation is the only acceptable path forward. The leaders of the Montana Legislature should demand it.
GIANFORTE THE DIETITIAN:
According to several reports, including a press release from the USDA, U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Secretary Brooke L. Rollins joined Montana Governor Greg Gianforte on Tuesday as the Governor submitted a waiver to USDA to ban soft drinks, junk food, and candy from the state’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).
The part of the press release that made me chuckle was this sentence:
“At the direction of President Trump, USDA is ensuring programs work harder to encourage healthy eating and lifestyle habits.”
Oh, absolutely, because if you’re looking for peak physical performance and a masterclass in clean living, Donald Trump is obviously the gold standard.
TRUMP ENDORSES PAXTON:
President Donald Trump on Tuesday endorsed Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton in the Republican primary for the U.S. Senate, supercharging his effort to oust incumbent Sen. John Cornyn in next week’s runoff. (AP)
There are reports that Cornyn votes with Trump more than 99% of the time. See what selling your soul to MAGA gets you.
This is good news for the Democrats in Texas. James Talarico is the official Democratic nominee running for the U.S. Senate seat. He will be a formidable opponent if Paxton wins the Republican primary.
By the way, does this mean Cornyn will cancel his request to name U.S. Highway 287, which runs from Port Arthur, Texas, to Choteau, Montana, as the future Interstate 47, otherwise known as Trump Interstate? (Source)
ONE MORE THING:
Nowadays, people don’t defend what is right; they defend who they like or who benefits them.
