Caught My Eye…

Thanks for ending your week with The Western Word. Here are the topics for today’s column:

  • Roberto Orozco-Ramírez
  • Another MT GOP Resolution
  • Campaign Mailers Update
  • U.S. Senate Silliness
  • Trump Floods Truth Social
  • One More Thing

ROBERTO OROZCO-RAMIREZ:

The Montana Free Press (MTFP) has been keeping up with the story of Roberto Orozco-Ramirez, a Froid, Montana, mechanic, who is in the United States illegally. He was arrested by ICE and spent 100 days in custody in various jails and ICE facilities in the northwest.

The MTFP reports that a federal judge in Great Falls ruled to release Orozco-Ramirez from jail on Wednesday evening, siding with his lawyers on their argument that his continued detention was unlawful. On Thursday around 10:50 a.m., after more than 100 days behind bars, Orozco-Ramirez walked out of the Cascade County Detention Center and embraced his oldest son.

What happens next is unknown. Orozco-Ramirez is free now, but his legal situation remains unresolved. He technically remains subject to civil immigration and deportation processes. Since he was removed once for being here illegally, I don’t think his chances of staying here are very good.

ANOTHER MT GOP RESOLUTION:

“You say you want a ‘resolution,’ well, you know, we’d all love to change the world…”

The Chairman of the Montana Republican Party and the Montana Republican Party Executive Committee have issued another resolution. This one is titled:

Resolution of the Montana Republican Party (MTGOP) Condemning Massive Spending by Far-Left Progressive Out-of-State Billionaires in Montana Republican Primary Races

They single out around 37 who received this spending, but on the Montana GOP Facebook page, they list in bold that 16 of these candidates were identified in the prior Fireweed Resolution No. 1 and No. 2 as having a direct relationship with the Progressive Dark Money Network through connected committees, including direct contributions, staffing expenditures, and services.

The horror! The horror!

This list makes a great voter guide. The 16 candidates listed in bold are worthy of a second look. They place their constituents and districts above the Republican Party.

By the way, Republican Montana State Senate (SD-12) candidate George Nikolakakos (who made the above list) has posted an “Honor Roll” on his Facebook page that you can review HERE

CAMPAIGN MAILERS UPDATE:

For new readers, I keep track of the campaign literature received during the campaign season. Some of the better mailers get shown on The Western Word.

So far this primary campaign season, I have received 45 campaign mailers. That is through Thursday (May 14).

That includes a letter from First Lady Melania Trump asking me to support and sign a Presidential Pledge of Support (and send a donation).

Sorry, Melania. I used all my extra money to fill up my gas tank.

Please make sure you save your mailers and recycle them!

By the way, the Helena Independent Record (IR) has a story posted that is titled:

“Mailer Mayhem: Super PACS spending surges in Montana’s Democratic primary for U.S. Senate.”

Check it out HERE. (Paywall)

U.S. SENATE SILLINESS:

The U.S. Senate on Thursday unanimously approved a resolution sponsored by Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.) to suspend senators’ pay during future government shutdowns. (Source)

Since around 73 of the 100 members of the U.S. Senate are millionaires (Source), I don’t see this resolution doing much good.

It’s a gimmick, and it’s silly.

TRUMP FLOODS TRUTH SOCIAL:

I thought it was fake news, but it was true. President Donald J. Trump, in a three-hour span from late May 11 to early May 12, 2026, posted 55 times on his Truth Social account.

Snopes found the claim to be true and reported:

“The president flooded his social media site with a range of unproven accusations, including an Obama-backed coup in 2016 and election fraud in 2020.” (Source)

There’s something wrong with our President.

ONE MORE THING:

Bump your music louder. It’s chaos out there!
