Here we go! Here are the topics for today’s column:
- City, County Tax Abatements
- Trump Interstate
- Byrne/Tuss Bill
- NFL Schedule Release
- One More Thing
CITY, COUNTY APPROVE TAX ABATEMENTS:
According to reporting from “The Electric” and posts from officials on social media, officials approved tax abatements for Janicki Industries during their May 12 meetings. Cascade County Commissioners approved two abatements, one for property tax and one for equipment, during their morning meeting.
City Commissioners approved a property tax abatement during a special meeting on Tuesday evening.
I agree with this move. City and County officials need to roll out the red carpet for Janicki Industries and do all they can to entice this business to locate in Great Falls and Cascade County.

TRUMP INTERSTATE:
U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) recently introduced the I-47 Future Interstate Act to designate US-287, which is the second-longest three-digit highway in the U.S. and runs from Port Arthur, Texas, to Choteau, Montana, as the future Interstate 47, otherwise known as the Trump Interstate. Beam me up, Scotty!
Cornyn is currently running a flash sale on his remaining dignity. He’s locked in a tight reelection race, which apparently means his soul is officially on the market for the low, low price of a Trump endorsement.
Maybe Cornyn can get a Trump Arch placed at the start and end of the Trump Interstate?
BYRNE/TUSS BILL:
The Helena Independent Record (IR) reports that the deliberate political maneuver by two federal incumbents this year to limit opposition to their chosen successors has left a stain on the electoral process that state lawmakers say they need to fix to prevent elites pulling the strings again in future elections.
The IR reports that two legislators (Rep. Ed Byrne, R-Bigfork and Rep. Paul Tuss, D-Havre) told the Montana State News Bureau this week they are planning proposals to block future efforts like those pulled off by Rep. Ryan Zinke and Sen. Steve Daines, who announced at the tail end of the state’s candidate filing window that they would not be seeking reelection but had given their blessing to two entrants jumping into the field right behind them.
I agree that something needs to be done, so I applaud Byrne and Tuss for their work on this.
Maybe they can call it “The Insider Baseball Ban” or “The Anti-Skullduggery Election Act.”

ONE MORE THING:
The lie of 2015:
“I’ll have Mexico pay for that wall.”
The lie of 2026:
“This project will be funded entirely by private donations.”
