Welcome! Here are the topics for today’s common sense commentary:
- Minneapolis & Montana
- U.S. Senators’ Popularity
- Montana Secretary of State
- One More Thing
MINNEAPOLIS & MONTANA:
The Montana Free Press (MTFP) has a story posted with the headline:
Montanans turn out en masse to protest ICE, Trump’s immigration policies
The MTFP also reports that members of Montana’s all-GOP federal delegation have called for an investigation into Alex Pretti’s death. The MTFP also said they requested interviews with all four members of Montana’s Republican delegation about the federal government’s role in Pretti’s death. No interviews were provided.
They did report that the offices of U.S. Sens. Steve Daines and Tim Sheehy and U.S. Rep.Troy Downing submitted comments from the lawmakers in response to MTFP inquiries. Rep. Ryan Zinke was on a congressional trip out of the country, according to a spokesperson.
They don’t want to be asked questions in person and maybe say something that pisses off Dear Leader.
Meanwhile, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt had the following to say on Monday:
“President Trump does not want any Americans to lose their lives in the streets of America… He believes what happened on Saturday is a tragedy, but every life is equal to President Trump and that’s why the lives of Laken Riley and Jocelyn Nungaray continue to matter to him… It’s unfortunate that we did not see the same type of sensationalist media coverage over the tragic deaths of those innocent American women…”
Ironically, local MAGA star and City Commissioner Rick Tryon echoed some of those comments recently in a Facebook post (typos are his):
Never forget how we got here.
If you didn’t shed a tear or speak a word of outrage for these beautiful young women, and thousands of others like them, then your angry words and proclamations today about the death of Alex Pretti are empty and gratuitous.
“No one called for mass unrest in the streets when laken hope riley was savagely beaten, raped, tortured, strangled, and her head was bashed in with a rock, by an illegal alien.
No one called for the deportation of illegal aliens after 12 year old jocelyn nungaray was raped and her throat was then slit by two illegal aliens.
No one called for “protests” for mother of 5 rachel morin, when she met a similar fate to laken riley. strangled, head beaten with a rock, sexually assaulted….
No one tweeted a word about dacara thompson when an illegal alien sexually assaulted her and then he threw her over a bridge!”
When some people disagreed with Tryon and claimed he was condoning the murder of Alex Pretti and that it was pathetic, Tryon fired back, saying, “If that’s what you took from what I wrote, then you have the reading comprehension skills of a baked turnip.”
Tryon does not take criticism well. He is delicate.
The Montana Democrats issued a statement:
The Montana Democratic Party is outraged and horrified by the news that ICE shot and killed Minneapolis resident Alex Pretti.
Our hearts go out to Pretti’s family, friends and all those mourning this tragic loss. The repeated violence committed by this administration is unacceptable and needs to stop now.
Get ICE off the streets before more lives are needlessly lost.
“Get ICE off the streets…”
I could not find anything from the Montana Republicans.
Just about everyone has an opinion about what is happening in Minneapolis, especially since the murders of Renee Good and Alex Pretti. May they rest in peace. There seems to be some cracks forming in MAGA since these murders. Soon, the MAGAs may be a distant memory like the Christian Coalition and the Tea Party movements.
In the meantime, we are still waiting for the Epstein files.
U.S. SENATORS’ POPULARITY:
Morning Consult’s latest report, released on Sunday, surveyed voters across all 50 states about whether they approved of how their U.S. senators are handling their jobs in office during the fourth quarter of 2025.
As for Montana’s U.S. Senators:
Tim Sheehy (R-Mont.): 50% approval, 42% disapproval.
Steve Daines (R-Mont.): 51% approval, 38% disapproval.
Bernie Sanders is the most popular, 68%-29%.
Mitch McConnell is the most unpopular, 27%-63%.
The top five most popular Senators are Democrats. The top five most unpopular Senators are Republicans.
Check out the full report HERE.
MONTANA SECRETARY OF STATE:
Montana Secretary of State Christi Jacobsen is coming under fire from members of her own party for not disclosing who paid to send the 467,000 postcards about non-citizens voting to Montanans.
The postcard mailing was first disclosed by The Western Word.
I am wondering which will come first: Jacobsen disclosing who paid for the postcards, or Trump’s Justice Department releasing the rest of the Epstein files.
Toss-up?
ONE MORE THING:
Being against Trump doesn’t mean I am liberal; it means I am a decent human being.
## THE END ##

Just a few days after the murder of Laken Riley in February, 2024, while Trump and the MAGA press and all the good little MAGA foot soldiers like Tryon were going apesh*t about it because there was an election to be won and it made for a real good issue, a young pregnant Amish woman named Rebekah Byler in Pennsylvania was brutally butchered in her own home by a white bullethead truck driver. The details were horrendous – throat slashed, shot in the head, and even house set on fire in some stories.
There was no outrage about it from Trump or the MAGAs or the MAGA press. They didn’t shed a tear or speak a word of outrage then, or go apesh*t, about Rebekah or any of the many other brutal murders of women carried out by white perps. Because there was nothing to be gained politically by demonizing white citizens, even if they were slashers.
Tryon as well didn’t then, or on an ongoing basis, go apesh*t about that murder or similar committed by white perps. His latest angry words and pompous overwrought blithering proclamation about murders committed by brown immigrants are empty and gratuitous. At best. Because they are also little more than callous and hypocritical political and personal opportunism, the latest entry in his episodic calculated and fallacy filled demagaguery that’s designed to rile up his echo chamber in order to boost hits and followers on his Facebook page.
The concern with the crimes of brown perps contrasted with the lack of a similar concern about the crimes of white perps is not a real good look either. Not for Rick and not for the entire MAGA clan that used to assert that all lives matter, not just the ones taken by immigrants.

Thanks for the comments and info. Tryon has been two-faced about many things. He doesn’t like to be called out for it. He’s sensitive. JmB
Just like Tryon’s Back the Blue protests he led had nothing to do with George Floyd being murdered. I think even a baked turnip can see thru that.
