Quote for the Day…
A mind that is stretched by a new experience can never go back to its old dimensions. ― Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr.
In today’s column, I take a quick look at these people/issues:
- Great Falls Homeless Issue
- The Western Word Poll
- Reading Assignments
GREAT FALLS HOMELESS ISSUE:
There was a push from one city commissioner and others in the Great Falls community to let it be known that they are unhappy with the homeless issue in Great Falls and to maybe fine a church for letting the homeless use their property.
I watched the city commission session online from 7:00-9:10 pm and I was impressed with how big a heart some in the Great Falls community have.
Many who spoke at the city commission meeting favored the work done by a local church to help the homeless.
By the way, I support the church for helping the homeless.
As I have said many times, we need compassion and leadership to deal with this issue.
There were some problems with the stream for the commission meeting. I lost count of how often I had to reload.
I was not impressed with one commissioner who will go unnamed. He is way over his head on most issues.
On the other hand, I was impressed with Mayor Bob Kelly’s leadership, and I was impressed with Commissioner Joe McKenney for his thoughtful questions.
After this meeting, I feel the community will not let those with hate dictate how we will help those less fortunate.
Let’s show some compassion and leadership – working together we can address the homeless issue.
THE WESTERN WORD POLL:
Now that Super Bowl LVI is complete, this week’s poll question asks, “Should the Monday after the Super Bowl be a national holiday?”
Results will be posted later this week.

I continue to maintain that the only way to achieve any sort of “bi-partisan” [snicker] consideration of the violent obscenity on Jan 6 would be to re-name the investigating committee as The Benghazi Memorial Lynching of Hillary. They’d have the brain-damaged far-right members of Congress crawling all over it, like maggots on roadkill.
And for what? Even the Mckensie brothers had better topics than these yahoos. A tantrum is not a legitimate topic. A mouse in a beer bottle makes more sense.

I too have been underwhelmed so far with one of our new GF city commissioners, one for whom I voted. Seems disinterested, unprepared, and is easily distracted by his phone. I’ll remain optimistic and hope this is temporary as he learns to juggle the demands of his day job with the homework and research required of an effective and responsible elected official.
During the municipal election campaign last year I was struck by how shallow and lightweight the local media’s candidate interviews were, as well as the candidate forums, compared to larger cities in which I have lived. You never really got to know much about the candidates or their character.
