The Monday Memo

Quote for the day…

Adulthood is saying, “But after this week things will slow down a bit” over and over until you die. – Unknown

Today’s independent commentary deals with these issues:

  • The Western Word Poll
  • Masking Guidelines
  • Kansas City Chiefs
  • Reading Assignments
  • One More Thing

THE WESTERN WORD POLL:

The 2021 World Series begins Tuesday night with the Atlanta Braves taking on the Houston Astros. All games will be televised on FOX. More information about the series can be found HERE.

This week’s poll question asks, “Which team will win the 2021 World Series?”

The results will be posted later this week.

MASKING GUIDELINES:

This is from the Cascade City-County (Great Falls) Health Department (CCHD)…

The Cascade City-County Health Department (CCHD) follows the CDC guidance on mask-wearing. The CDC’s full guidance is available here (general guidelines) and here (for vaccinated persons).

In areas with “substantial” or “high” transmission rates, the CDC is recommending that everyone wear a mask indoors in public places. This includes fully vaccinated persons. Cascade County is currently classified as having the highest level of community transmission – this can be monitored here. Accordingly, CCHD strongly recommends that all persons age two or older wear a mask indoors in public places, even if you are fully vaccinated.

Additionally, in areas with high numbers of COVID-19 cases, such as Cascade County, the CDC recommends that people “consider wearing a mask in crowded outdoor settings and for activities with close contact with others who are not fully vaccinated.”

Seems simple to me…

KANSAS CITY CHIEFS:

My Kansas City Chiefs were badly beaten by the Tennessee Titans on Sunday by a score of 27-3. The Chiefs are 3-4. (Box Score)

The Chiefs were in the last three AFC Championship games and played in the last two Super Bowls, winning one.

They have fallen so far. The season is not over, but I’m not seeing the team play like they can. They fumble. They throw interceptions. They drop passes. They complain to the officials. They lack discipline. They are not hungry.

Someone needs to take control and get the team back on the right track.

READING ASSIGNMENTS:

Here are some articles that you should read…

Editorial: Montana’s attorney general soars to new lows
This is not the way to run the AG’s office.

An IR View: We need fair and impartial policing from Montana AG’s office
I don’t think we’re going to get it with this guy…

Poll: Majority of voters say vaccine mandates help the economy, coronavirus pandemic
They do help. It’s simple.

Report: Far-right anti-government group grows significantly
I’m glad I live in a bunker…

ONE MORE THING:

I saw the following posted on social media the other day and must respond:

One of the hardest pills I had to swallow was realizing I meant nothing to people that meant a lot to me.

Here is my response:

  • Did you ever think you were an asshole to those people most of your life and that is the reason most people stay away from you?
  • Have you blocked the people who meant a lot to you on social media?
  • Maybe people don’t want to associate with you because in one post you praise Jesus and God, but in other posts, you say hateful things about blacks, Muslims, women, gays, and lesbians.

I hope this little therapy session helps…

    • mtcreels – Thanks for pointing out this article. I have a subscription to WaPo so I was able to read it. I remember a few years back some Montana Republicans put an outhouse in a parade and called it “Obama Presidential Library.” It had bullet holes in it. Disgusting. Thanks again, JmB

  2. It has been very obviously since Austin Knudsen was Speaker of Montana House of Representatives that he likes telling people what to do and how to dress. This guy probably has had his sights on the Governor’s office since he graduated law school. Montana has elected 4 of our Attorney Generals since 1950 to office of governor.(Bonner, Anderson,Racicot,Bullock)
It really doesn’t matter what ridiculous things Knudsen does on edge of legal or illegal as he certainly isn’t going to be held responsible by the Montana Republican Party or their leaders as he won his office by over 100,000 votes against a well know political family name. He received 20,000 more votes then Governor Gianforte. He may be governor sooner then the editorial boards of these papers want. I actually wonder where these papers were in the 2020 election. It appears Gianforte is already tired of being governor realizing it actually is a really tough job. No matter what party you are those farmers, ranchers, businessman or ordinary families expect results. I am not sure what office Gianforte will try to buy next probably not US Senator as that is a long 6 years of trying to hide from voters. Knudsen certainly will be governor either in couple years or 2028. The Democrats have no answer. I doubt former Governor Schweitzer’s heart is in it anymore. The state may be in for years of trying to turn the clock back to the 1950’s.
