Tuesday’s Quick Hits

Quote for the Day…

What if they are not stars, but holes poked into the top of the container so we can breathe? – Unknown

In today’s column, I take a quick look at these people/issues:

  • Montana AG to be Investigated
  • Kelly & Burow
  • Junior’s Cheap Shot
  • Stapleton Tweets an Announcement is Coming
  • The Western Word Poll

MONTANA AG TO BE INVESTIGATED:

The Daily Montanan reported that Republican legislative leadership on Monday approved a special counsel investigation proposed by state Democratic leaders into reports that Republican Attorney General Austin Knudsen used state resources, including law enforcement, to harass and intimidate physicians and staff at St. Peter’s Hospital in Helena.

I think this is a good thing. I hope they conduct a thorough investigation. I am surprised the Republican leadership agreed to this.

KELLY & BUROW:

When I was involved in politics, I used to double and triple-check letters that I prepared for my boss. I would have another person read the letters, too. I did not like errors.

Planned Parenthood Advocates of Montana and Forward Montana sent some Great Falls residents a mailer about the Municipal Election. They did not spell Mayoral Candidate Fred Burow’s name correctly. They spelled it “Burrows.” If they were trying to be funny, they should have spelled it “Burros.”

It was kind of amusing during this Municipal Election season to see some of the right-leaning folks go nuts. The mailer was not really about abortions; it was about “Does the candidate support public health measures and following CDC guidelines & recommendations as we continue to navigate the COVID-19 pandemic?

The mailer says Bob Kelly -Yes, Fred “Burrows” -No.

Some on the right asked why these “out of town” Democratic organizations are promoting candidates in the Great Falls municipal election?

How about freedom of speech…

It took me about a minute to find the answer. The answer can be found on their website:

It can be difficult to find information about city elections. That’s why Forward Montana and Planned Parenthood Advocates of Montana came together to provide information to voters like you who care about ensuring our community is a place where we all can thrive.

That’s me!

JUNIOR’S CHEAP SHOT:

I used to be surprised when I would read how low the Trump family would go to get back at people. I don’t think there’s a bottom. They are a nasty hateful family. History will not be kind to them.

Here is the latest from The Hill:

Donald Trump Jr. is selling T-shirts on his website that mock the fatal shooting on Alec Baldwin’s movie set. The T-shirts promoted on his website include the tagline “Guns don’t kill people, Alec Baldwin kills people.”

Snopes verified the story as true HERE. Read the complete story from The Hill by clicking HERE.

Yes, I am aware that Alec Baldwin was no supporter of Trump, but sometimes keeping your mouth shut when your enemy is suffering is the right and higher road to take, not to mention the adult thing to do.

STAPLETON TWEETS AN ANNOUNCEMENT IS COMING:

On his Twitter feed, former Secretary of State Corey Stapleton tweeted, “Be on the lookout for an announcement this week!”

Let the speculation begin…

THE WESTERN WORD POLL:

The 2021 World Series begins Tuesday night with the Atlanta Braves taking on the Houston Astros. All games will be televised on FOX. More information about the series can be found HERE.

This week’s poll question asks, “Which team will win the 2021 World Series?”

The results will be posted later this week.

  1. Another note about Junior – at a recent rally, he stayed silent and smiled as the crowd chanted, “F— Joe Biden!” What marvelous political discourse.

  2. Knudsen investigation: I am betting heavily on, “Find no concrete evidence of wrongdoing. Knudsen’s word against theirs.”

DJT Jr.: Previously cemented his lowlife creds when he came to Montana and called Tester a “scumbag”. No matter what you think of Dem politics, Tester’s a fellow born and bred Montanan and a respected member of our agricultural community. That comment from a snotty little NY rich boy was an insult to all of us.

Right wing meltdown about mayoral candidate letter: The one on the local nutjob blog was a doozy, trying its damnedest to tar the current mayor and a commission candidate with supposed pro-abortion beliefs based simply on who mailed the letter about the mayoral race. Of course the City commission has nothing to do with abortion law and the letter said nothing at all about the comissioner candidate, but inconvenient facts like that are irrelevant when it comes to righty rabble rousing.

Additionally on the Commission and righty outrage: Local news sources reported that one of the great local righty causes celebre of 2021 was put to bed the other night. In a Zoom meeting the commission voted to go ahead and set a limit on the length of time people can use public streets as free taxpayer-subsidized RV storage. Only commissioner Houck voted no, while the local right’s pet commissioner Tryon surprisingly voted yes. However in his usual fashion when voting yes on things the local.right opposes, he claimed he did so “reluctantly” – because that excuses everything. Though as insurance excuse he made sure to note for the record that he was the only commissioner to stand against Zoom commission meetings. A gold attaboy star for him. One can only hope that if we unfortunately end up with a Commission loaded with committed righty extremists after this election that similar posing and preening for the public record and the associated entertainment value goes up exponentially.

  3. Maybe the Republicans agreed to an investigation because they think the AG reports are far off about what really happened. Or he’s pissed off GOP leaders with his take charge attitude.

    • Mary – That could be true. Maybe it’s a “stay in your lane, bro” moment in the Montana Republican Party.
      Thanks, JmB

      • I seriously doubt it. One would think that after the judges pantsed lil Knudey and hilariously paddled his little butt in public ‘til he was red in the face, that he would have learned his lesson. But no. Lil Knudey continued to search for soft targets he could easily intimidate. Not satisfied with attacking teachers and school boards, the Lone Deranger thought he found another easy target. Doctors. BIG. Mistake. Montana docs are not the sedate bespectacled elderly intellectual types like Dr. Fauci. They will kick your sorry ass if their integrity is attacked by a uneducated pissant from East Overshoe, Montana.

And the rest of the country continues to laugh at our experiment in MAGA gone off the rails, just like AMTRAC!

  4. To be fair, Cheney got his ass raked over the coals when he shot his hunting buddy. That said Don jr. is still a P.O.S.

    • Bill – That’s true, although Cheney did not kill the guy. I remember W even making jokes about it. Thanks, JmB
