The Wednesday Read

Patience, young grasshopper.

We may not know who won the Presidential race for a few days, but we do know that the Montana Republicans are cleaning the clocks of the Montana Democrats in the statewide races.

In most races, the Republicans are beating the Democrats soundly. The results are not official yet, but this is what I am seeing so far.

I picked President Trump to win Montana. He did pretty easily. I picked Joe Biden to win the Presidency. It is looking better all the time.

In the U.S. Senate race, Steve Bullock lost handily to incumbent Republican Steve Daines. I thought this race would be a lot closer. I picked Daines to win.

In the U.S. House Montana At-Large race, Matt Rosendale (R) easily beat Kathleen Williams (D). I thought Williams would win. I think the only hope for Democrats to win a House seat in Montana is for there to be another House seat added to Montana.

Greg Gianforte (R) beat Mike Cooney (D) for Montana Governor. I did not think this would be close. I picked Gianforte. Gianforte will be the first Republican Governor since 2005. Like I wrote earlier, there will be some big changes in Helena with a new Republican administration.

Christi Jacobson for Secretary of State, Austin Knudsen for Attorney General, and Troy Downing for State Auditor all won their respective races easily. All are Republicans. I picked all three to win.

Elsie Arntzen (R) beat Melissa Romano (D) for the Superintendent of Public Instruction. I thought Romano would win.

In the Supreme Court Justice #5 race, I predicted Laurie McKinnon (NP) would win. She is winning easily.

In the Public Service Commission #4 race, Republican Jennifer Fielder is leading Democrat Monica Tranel 52-48 with a little more than half the precincts fully reporting.

In the Ballot Initiatives, LR 130 would restrict a county, city, town, consolidated local government, or other local government unit’s authority to regulate the carrying of firearms. I predicted LR 130 would be defeated. As of this morning, it is winning 51-49%.

CI-118/I-190 was about recreational marijuana. I predicted it will pass and sometime next year when the rules are written and the sales start, Montana will be a little mellower. These are passing pretty easily.

Last night (or early this morning), President Trump gave a campaign statement in the White House. There were campaign signs. His speech was about his campaign. This is illegal.

Nonetheless, Trump tweeted that “they are trying to STEAL the election.” Later during his speech, he said the same thing. He said he wanted to stop all the voting, but that had stopped hours before. The counting is all that is left.

Trump is undermining democracy with his statement and tweets. I think he’s going to lose, and it’s going to get ugly.

With most races decided, it’s time to stop the partisan fighting and work together.

Montana Election results can be seen HERE.

  1. Welcome to the christo-fascist state of Kanwisowa. The complete bolloxing that Brownback did in Kansas and Walker in Wisconsin and whats-their-face in Iowa will be wreaked upon Montana.

One of the definitions of insanity is trying the same thing over and over expecting different results. The MTGOP will do their “best” to prove it.

Skeezix has a proposed bill to repeal the will of the majority regarding pot-LC0654

  2. I knew the state was turning more red but I was surprised that incompetent Elsie Arntzen won so easily. It appears if you had a R behind your name you won. Cascade County use to be a reliable Democrat county it voted by large margins for all the top tier and B tier Republican Candidates. Obviously the Democrats message needs a fine tuning. It does appear Biden will win when all the votes are counted. But he will not get any meaningful legislation passed as the GOP Senate hung on and the Grim Reaper Mitch McConnell will make sure that Biden is hamstrung on day one. Biden will get no judges appointed and certainly no Supreme Court Justice. Biden is fooling himself thinking he can work with Senate GOP. The worst of the worst are all there yet. The boot licking Trumpers in the Senate are going to make life very miserable for Biden. Hell Biden will have one heck of a time getting his cabinet through the Senate. I was surprised how well Trump did overall considering some of things he has done and said. I am just glad election is over but I wonder if we ever get back to normal.

  3. The Republicans we elected working together is pretty scary. Reduce your debt load. You are going to get what you voted for. That is how our system works. Racism and greed are very powerful tools and difficult to out vote. Unfortunately, it seems only severe, catastrophic privation will be more powerful.

  4. Just thinking about local races. It looks to me that R’s are beating D’s by larger margins this year. Brad Hamlett for instance is out. When I moved to MT in 1998 I think Joe McKinney was the only R out of all the local races to win.

    • Good point. I remember the Fox Farm area was the only Republican area many years ago. Interesting about Hamlett; I live in that area and don’t remember seeing anything from him.
      Thanks, JmB
