Don’t worry about the haters…They are just angry because the truth you speak contradicts the lie they live. ― Steve Maraboli
Welcome to May and “Caught My Eye” (CME)!
UPDATE: CME is coming to you, STILL, I repeat STILL, coronavirus free, from deep inside an underground bunker in Montana. The bunker, where cursive writing is required and the pledge is recited each day, also serves as the worldwide headquarters for The Western Word blog!
CME is the once a week column that is posted here every Friday morning. This is when I take a look at some of the stories I did not have time to write about during the week. There may be some sarcasm and pointed independent commentary so be warned!
Here are the topics that “Caught My Eye” this week:
- Montana Gubernatorial Debates
- Joe Biden
- Self-Isolation
- One More Thing
MONTANA GUBERNATORIAL DEBATES:
Cross your fingers and toes folks, there might be a full slate of gubernatorial candidates participating in the Republican debate this weekend.
The Democrats are also debating.
Aaron Flint at NewsTalk955.com reports that U.S. Representative Greg Gianforte, Attorney General Tim Fox, and Montana State Senator Al Olszewski are all scheduled to participate virtually from around the state. Democratic candidates Lt. Governor Mike Cooney and businesswoman Whitney Williams will also debate each other.
According to KGVO.com, the debates will run back to back between 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. Saturday on most Montana broadcast stations.
I imagine Fox and Olszewski must be foaming at the mouth to get a crack at Gianforte who has missed two other debates. It should be fun to watch.
JOE BIDEN:
In politics, if a candidate and his/her team do not address negative information or accusations quickly, it can escalate and take over the news.
That is what is happening with the sexual assault allegation against former Vice President and current Presidential candidate Joe Biden.
The “USS Biden” is taking on some water in recent days due to his team’s lack of addressing the accusations. The campaign has denied the allegations, but not much more has been done. Supposedly Friday morning Biden will appear on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” program to start the process of addressing the accusations in person. You can bet Biden has been practicing his responses, making sure they are solid and to the point while also not being too negative toward his accuser. It’s a tightrope for Biden.
MSNBC is a safe place for Biden to start. It’s like Trump’s Fox News. I don’t expect Biden to get too many tough questions, because MSNBC wants Trump to go just as Fox News wants Trump re-elected.
So what is the accusation? Yahoo News reports:
In March, former Biden congressional staffer Tara Reade told podcaster Katie Halper that in the spring or summer of 1993 that the then-senator from Delaware had cornered her in a private hallway when she was delivering a duffel bag. Reade alleges that Biden began kissing her, propositioned and reached under her skirt and began touching her.
The Associated Press reported:
In the course of reporting on Reade’s allegations, the AP also contacted 21 former Biden staffers from the time and spoke to several of them. While some remembered Reade, none recalled any instances of inappropriate touching or behavior on Biden’s behalf, or any complaints made by Reade.
If the accusation is proven true, this might be a Presidential race that has two dirty old men facing off. One does not have to look far on the internet to see that our President has over 20 allegations of rape, sexual assault, and sexual harassment. See the list HERE.
Is that Andrew Cuomo I see warming up in the bullpen…?
SELF-ISOLATION:
This is a plan I can get behind…
Yahoo Finance is reporting that several public health officials are still calling on Americans to self-isolate until testing and treatment can get under control. These officials sent a letter to the Senate and House party leaders laying out a series of provisions to be considered in the next coronavirus legislation, with one proposal paying people $50 a day to voluntarily self-isolate.
I’ve had jobs where I had to be a “people person” and I did not like it, although I was pretty good at it. Most people are asses in one way or the other, so if they paid me to stay away from people I would consider it a dream job!
ONE MORE THING:
Happy Anniversary to my sweetheart!
