No matter how big a hammer you use, you can’t pound common sense into stupid people. – Unknown
Tuesday’s Quick Hits is the column where I post a short narrative from recent major stories and provide brief commentary.
Today’s quick hits deal with these important subjects:
- Montana House Republicans
- Iowa Caucuses
- Trump’s Job Approval
- One More Thing
MONTANA HOUSE REPUBLICANS:
MTN News reported that Republican leaders of the Montana House of Representatives on Monday asked state Rep. Rodney Garcia, R-Billings, to resign, after his comments over the weekend that socialists should “go to prison” or be shot.
I do believe that Garcia’s remarks were stupid, but if they asked every Republican in Montana to resign over distasteful or stupid comments, would there be any of them left to serve?
I posted the following on my Twitter page:
It would be great if the Republican leaders in the Montana House of Representatives were as concerned about what Trump says and does as they are with State Rep. Garcia.
We’ve seen a Montana Republican punch a reporter; we’ve seen a Montana Republican pull an outhouse in parades that had a sign on it that read, “Obama Presidential Library.” The outhouse had bullet holes in it. We’ve seen many distasteful posts by Republicans on Facebook.
I don’t have enough room to list all the crap Trump has said and posted.
So forgive me if I don’t believe the leaders of the Montana House of Representatives suddenly being concerned over some stupid remarks from one of their own.
IOWA CAUCUSES:
I grew up in northern Missouri and lived in many locations in the Midwest because my father worked in building interstates and bridges. I lived in Iowa and do not have fond memories of that time. I think Iowa is kind of like the toilet bowl of the United States.
Now Iowans have screwed up the only big thing that happens in Iowa, the caucuses. I waited up past my bedtime to see the results of the caucuses, but they finally announced they would not be released last night.
It must be hard for Iowans to count. It’s time to do away with caucuses.
You can check my Twitter feed and The Western Word Facebook page for the results if they ever release them.
TRUMP’S JOB APPROVAL:
Gallup Polling is reporting this morning that President Donald Trump’s job approval rating has risen to 49%, his highest in Gallup polling since he took office in 2017. The new poll finds 50% of Americans disapproving of Trump, leaving just 1% expressing no opinion.
It looks like the impeachment circus is backfiring on the Democrats. People are feeling sorry for Trump. We’ll see if his approval ratings continue to rise as we approach November when we start seeing ads attacking him.
Tonight’s State of the Union address will be must-see TV!
ONE MORE THING:
Did you know that my Kansas City Chiefs are Super Bowl LIV Champions?
