The Monday Memo

Ability may get you to the top, but it takes character to keep you there. ― John Wooden

Today’s independent commentary deals with these people/issues:

  • The MAGA Church
  • TWW Poll Results
  • NFL Playoffs
  • Kansas City Chiefs

THE MAGA CHURCH:

Last week The Lincoln Project released a video called “The MAGA Church.” The Lincoln Project says they are holding accountable those who would violate their oaths to the Constitution and would put others before Americans.

On their website, The Lincoln Project says their mission is to “Defeat President Trump and Trumpism at the ballot box.” The advisors listed are mostly former Republicans.

Check out the video here:

You can visit The Lincoln Project website HERE.

TWW POLL RESULTS:

Tonight (Monday) the LSU Tigers will play the Clemson Tigers for the 2020 College Football Playoff National Championship. The game will be played in New Orleans, and televised on ESPN. It begins at 8:00 p.m. ET.

LSU is seeded #1 and Clemson #3.

Last week I asked readers which team will win Monday’s CFP Football National Championship: LSU or Clemson.

Here are the results:

  • LSU – 62.5%
  • Clemson – 12.5%
  • Don’t Care – 25%

I hope it’s a competitive game!

NFL PLAYOFFS:

We now have the final four teams vying for a spot in the Super Bowl.

This Sunday is called “Championship Sunday” because we crown the two conference champions who then play each other in the Super Bowl.

In the AFC it will be the Tennessee Titans vs the Kansas City Chiefs. In the NFC it will be the Green Bay Packers vs the San Francisco 49ers.

The games will be played on Sunday (Jan. 19), starting with the Titans/Chiefs at 3:05 p.m. ET. CBS has that game. Then the Packers/49ers follow at 6:40 p.m. ET/ Fox has that game.

The winners play in the Super Bowl on February 2 in Miami.

Look for a couple of polls this week about the games.

KANSAS CITY CHIEFS:

My house was full of Chiefs fans on Sunday and some of the older people (me) almost had a heart attack when the Texans went up on the Chiefs 24-0 early in the second quarter. I told folks it was still early, but in my heart I did not think they could overcome the Texans.

I was wrong. After it was 24-0 the Chiefs came back and took a 28-24 lead into halftime and never looked back. The Chiefs won 51-31. Incredible! (Box Score)

The Chiefs scored so many touchdowns (7) that the stadium ran out of fireworks to shoot after touchdowns. (ESPN)

The Chiefs have to get by the Titans to earn a trip to the Super Bowl. Titan running back Derrick Henry is one tough runner and hard to stop. That will be a key to the game.

It was 50 years ago when the Chiefs last won a Super Bowl. I actually remember it. I’m hoping they will do it one more time so my kids can experience it. I wouldn’t mind to see it again, myself.

Go Chiefs!

  1. It was an exciting game for the Chiefs. I was thinking of you and feeling sorry for you at 24—0. I enjoyed Coach Cower’s short interview with Coach Reid before the game.
