Today’s independent commentary deals with these issues:
- Pelosi 2, Trump 1
- Impeach Nancy Pelosi
- The Billboard
- Media Bias/Fact Check
Pelosi 2, Trump 1:
I call ’em as I see ’em and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has won two major victories over President Donald Trump.
This battle is far from over, though.
First, Pelosi postponed the State of the Union Address and then she was able to get the government to reopen without funding for Trump’s wall. As for Trump, he was able to cancel Pelosi’s trip to the Middle East.
The government is open and the sides are negotiating a deal. They have until February 15 to make a deal because that is when the funding deal ends.
Trump needs to learn that if he threatens to declare a national emergency for the wall funding, he better be prepared to declare it. He blinked and Pelosi owned him.
Trump’s base supporters are very pissed at him. This is not good with him running for reelection.
Ann Coulter told Bill Maher Friday night that in reference to the wall, “It’s crazy that I expect a president to keep the promise he made every day for 18 months.”
Coulter also said on Twitter:
“Good news for George Herbert Walker Bush: As of today, he is no longer the biggest wimp ever to serve as President of the United States.”
Damn. That’s pretty low down.
People still have a sense of humor about this. Somebody tweeted something like, “I hope Mexico sends that check before Feb. 15.”
Impeach Nancy Pelosi:
Like I said in my column on Sunday, some days I feel like the sheriff of social media because there are so many dipshits running around posting untrue stuff.
Recently, there are some posts on social media calling for the impeachment of Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi. Apparently, some of these people making those comments failed to pay attention in American Government and/or U.S. Constitution classes.
Sometimes the ignorance of people amazes me. These people probably vote in most elections, too.
The fact is that members of the U.S. House and U.S. Senate cannot be impeached. They can face expulsion, censure, and reprimand. The last time someone was expelled was in 2002.
You can read a Congressional Research Service (CRS) report about impeachment by clicking HERE.
People who want Pelosi gone should read about expulsion in another CRS report that can be found HERE.
The truth is out there and this sheriff will bring it to you…
I saw someone post the following on social media and I have to comment:
Democrats are more focused on stopping Trump than helping our country.
During Obama’s eight years, the sign could have read:
Republicans are more focused on stopping Obama than helping our country.
You see, if you are a partisan you don’t see the truth as easy as those of us who are independent.
During the Obama years, Republican Senate leader Mitch McConnell said in an interview that, “The single most important thing we want to achieve is for President Obama to be a one-term president.”
I think he failed big-time at that.
McConnell is also well-known for stopping Obama from placing a justice on the Supreme Court. McConnell was quoted saying, “One of my proudest moments was when I looked at Barack Obama in the eye and I said, ‘Mr. President, you will not fill this Supreme Court vacancy.’”
Media Bias/Fact Check:
In case you are looking for a website that lets you know if the stuff you are reading is slanted one way or the other, you might want to check out Media Bias/Fact Check. They contend that they are the most comprehensive media bias resource on the internet.
So if Uncle Joe is spewing right-wing propaganda as fact, you can let him know his source is biased toward conservative causes.
All you have to do is type in the media website (like Associated Press) in the upper right corner in the search bar and see what they say. It also ranks the source on factual reporting. They also have some Montana papers rated.
