Americans elected a president who — this is a safe surmise — knew that he had more to fear from making his tax returns public than from keeping them secret. – George Will

After the widespread criticism for his remarks siding with Russia in regard to election meddling, President Donald Trump backtracked yesterday and said this:
I actually went out and reviewed a clip of an answer that I gave, and I realized that there is need for some clarification.
It should have been obvious — I thought it would be obvious — but I would like to clarify, just in case it wasn’t. In a key sentence in my remarks, I said the word “would” instead of “wouldn’t.” The sentence should have been: I don’t see any reason why I wouldn’t — or why it wouldn’t be Russia. So just to repeat it, I said the word “would” instead of “wouldn’t.” And the sentence should have been — and I thought it would be maybe a little bit unclear on the transcript or unclear on the actual video — the sentence should have been: I don’t see any reason why it wouldn’t be Russia. Sort of a double negative.
So you can put that in, and I think that probably clarifies things pretty good by itself.
But then the President added this:
I accept our intelligence community’s conclusion that Russia’s meddling in the 2016 election took place. Could be other people also; there’s a lot of people out there.
“There’s a lot of people out there” which basically undermined what he had tried to clarify.
I’m not sure Trump misspoke. I think for some reason he is afraid of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Someone on Twitter wrote, “For someone with bone spurs, Trump sure can backtrack quickly…”

Former FBI Director James Comey urged voters to vote for Democrats via Twitter. Here is his message on Twitter:
This Republican Congress has proven incapable of fulfilling the Founders’ design that “Ambition must … counteract ambition.” All who believe in this country’s values must vote for Democrats this fall. Policy differences don’t matter right now. History has its eyes on us.
The Republicans control the White House, the Senate, and the House. They might actually get something done if they had to work with the Democrats more.
In today’s Washington Post, columnist George Will writes about “This sad, embarrassing wreck of a man” saying “America’s child president had a play date with a KGB alumnus, who surely enjoyed providing day care.”

Bullock Heading to Iowa:
I see reports that Montana Governor Steve Bullock is heading back to Iowa to campaign for President.
I’m not sure why anyone would want to travel to Iowa. I lived there. It’s like the toilet bowl of the USA.
I’ve said before that Bullock should not run for President He can’t win, but he can become a U.S. Senator from Montana a lot easier.
