I look to a day when people will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character. – Martin Luther King, Jr.
Today’s commentary deals with:
- Candidate Filing
- Oprah 2020
- Roll Tide
We’ll finally start seeing who is running for elective office in Montana this Wednesday, January 11. That is when the candidate filing for the 2018 Primary Election begins. It ends at 5:00 p.m. on March 12.
More information can be found HERE.
Once again it will be very hard for an independent candidate to get on the ballot in Montana. If you want to run as an Independent for U.S. Senate, you’ll need to gather about 12,000 signatures. For state senate and house, you’ll need somewhere in the range of 90 – 300 signatures depending on the district.
If Montanans want to see something done and stop the partisan squabbles, they should encourage their elected officials in the state senate and house to change the rules for independent candidates. Independent candidate should have the same rules as Republicans and Democrats.
In just a few short minutes during a speech Sunday night at the Golden Globe awards, Oprah Winfrey scared conservatives to death. Some people believe she should run for President and thought that her speech had her leaning that way.
Winfrey was receiving the Cecil B. de Mille Award at the Golden Globes. You can watch the 10-minute speech HERE.
She is a double whammy for some on the fringe right:
Oprah is black.
Oprah is a woman.
That’s something that some conservatives don’t like (See Barack Obama. See Hillary Clinton).
Whether or not “Oprah 2020” becomes a reality it will be fun to watch how it’s handled by those on the right.
It what was one the better college football games I’ve seen, Alabama beat Georgia in overtime to win the College Football National Championship.
This is Alabama coach Nick Saban’s sixth National Championship which ties him with the great Paul “Bear” Bryant for most all-time.
President Donald Trump attended the game. Some way he will take credit for it being a great game. Watch for it.
Folks may remember that Alabama was seeded fourth in the four-team playoff. People were upset that they even got into the playoffs. Alabama belonged in the playoffs and they proved it Monday night.
I enjoyed this season of College Football – especially the large schools. I don’t get too excited about the lower divisions of college football.
We’re winding down football season now. Last night was the last Monday night football game until probably September. The NFL playoffs are in the divisional round and that means this is the last weekend of games on Saturday and Sunday. Some people say the divisional round is the best weekend of NFL football. We’ll see.
The Super Bowl is February 4.
