Thursday Numbers

Hold on folks – just one more day until the weekend and one more week of January!

If this is your first time visiting The Western Word, “Thursday Numbers” is my weekly column where I take a look at the numbers in the news (in descending order) and provide commentary sometimes laced with just a little sarcasm.

Please note that if you read this column you may be able to use the information to impress your family, friends, and co-workers. Then again, when they find out you spend your time reading blogs they may not be that impressed…

This week I write about Oprah and Lance, Union membership, unemployment, Hillary Clinton, Air Force and sexual assaults, the End Government Shutdowns Act, Federal Judges, New York City’s subway system, oldest marathon runner, 13th DUI, Sweet Caroline, AR-15 rifles, Clarence Thomas, gun violence, Keystone XL oil pipeline, Chiefs in Pro Bowl, and the debt limit. There’s a lot more…  (more…)

Caught My Eye…

Happy Friday folks – welcome to the (almost) award-winning Caught My Eye! The weekend is upon us and some folks have three days off  with Monday being the Federal holiday honoring Martin Luther King, Jr.

If this is your first time visiting The Western Word, the “Caught My Eye” column is posted every Friday morning right here. This is where I take a quick look at some of the stories I did not have time to write about during the week – and I often throw in some sarcasm just to make you smile. So get ready to head into your weekend armed with knowledge and a smile.

Today I write about the Montana Senate Republicans “Pep Talk,” Hunters against Hunter, Baucus and Guns, Term Limits, Ryan Leaf, Lance Armstrong, Journalist/Stripper, and much much more…

Sincerely,

Jack

Lance Armstrong beat the odds and he won all those races. He took all those drug tests and he passed them. Lance Armstrong was clean and he was a champion! The French people and other athletes in the cycling world were just resentful about his domination. It even looked like Scott Pelley and the entire CBS News organization was a little jealous of Lance’s domination in the cycling world and they were out to get him with all their stories on the evening news and 60 Minutes.

At least five times since August 2007 I stood up for Lance Armstrong on this website writing about people attacking him and saying he “doped.” I did not believe it. He was one of the good guys.   (more…)
