Some mornings, it’s just not worth chewing through the leather straps. – Emo Philips
Welcome to the big show to end the week “Caught My Eye” (CME)!
If you are a first-time visitor, CME is posted right here every Friday morning. This is when I take a look at some of the stories I did not have time to write about during the week. I often throw in a touch of sarcasm to make you smile – or to irritate you just a little – maybe both.
CME is “locked and loaded” today! Topics that I am providing commentary about include Troy Downing for Senate, Trump and McConnell, thank you Vladimir Putin, and One More Thing!
Troy Downing for Senate:
In case you missed it, Troy Downing is a Republican running for U.S. Senate in Montana.
Trump & McConnell:
The “flavor” of the week for President Donald Trump to attack seems to be Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.
Some folks might be feeling sorry for McConnell. I am not one of those people.
I think McConnell is a weak leader. A much better leader would be John Thune of South Dakota, but who would want the job of majority leader?
I think my dislike for McConnell started with how he treated his fellow Kentucky Senator, the late Jim Bunning. McConnell has screwed over several senators who needed help to win reelection.
McConnell lost many times on the senate floor when he was outsmarted by former Democratic leader Harry Reid. It has continued with Chuck Schumer.
Trump feels very disappointed in McConnell’s leadership. Welcome to the club! It is good that he already has that figured out.
Thanks to Putin?
It was kind of odd (but what else is new), but as Roll Call reported, President Donald Trump thanked Russian President Vladimir Putin for his decision to expel hundreds of American diplomats based in Moscow, saying it will help reduce the U.S. government’s payroll.
Trump talked to the press about Putin expelling 755 U.S. diplomats from Russia:
“I want to thank you because we’re trying to cut down our payroll and as far as I’m concerned I’m very thankful that he let go a large number of people,” Trump told pool reporters in Bedminster, New Jersey.
“There’s no real reason for them to go back,” Trump said when asked to respond to Putin’s decision. “I greatly appreciate the fact that we’ve been able to cut our payroll of the United States. We’re going to save a lot of money.”
I’m not too sure Trump understands what just happened. One thing for sure, in the first 200+ days in office, Trump has attacked almost everyone in the world – except for Vladimir Putin.
One More Thing:
Have a great week – a week “the likes of which this world has never seen before!”
