Terrific News Tuesday

Remember that the happiest people are not those getting more, but those giving more. – H. Jackson Brown, Jr.

Hey kids – welcome to another edition of Terrific News Tuesday (TNT)!

In case this is your first time reading TNT, this column is all about good news. I know it’s hard to believe, but I won’t be complaining or criticizing anyone or anything in this column today – just writing about some terrific news that caught my attention!

Here is some of the good stuff in this edition of TNT:

  • Grant for Montana Children
  • Equal Pay Day
  • Dine-in Movie Theater
  • The Reunion
  • Baby Goats
  • NBA Playoffs

Grant for Montana Children:

In a victory for children and families across the state, Senator Jon Tester and Governor Steve Bullock announced that Montana will receive more than $4.3 million in funding for its Maternal, Infant, and Early Childhood Home Visiting Program. (Press Release)

This is very good news for Montana’s children.

Equal Pay Day:

Today (April 12) is Equal Pay Day. USA Today reports that this is the date that symbolizes how far into the year the National Committee on Pay Equity says women must work to earn what men earned in the previous year. The non-holiday is commemorated annually with protests, Twitter storms and sassy 21% off discounts to compensate for the fact that, on average, women make $0.79 for every dollar men make.

It’s always good to be reminded that we must do more.

Dine-in Movie Theater:

The Missoulian reported that Southgate Mall and Carmike Cinemas plan to open a new 900-seat, nine-screen dine-in movie theater with a menu featuring items like pizza, hamburgers and salads by next spring in Missoula, Montana.

Movie-goers will be able to reserve luxury reclining seats ahead of time, and waiters and waitresses will bring their orders to them. There’s a good chance beer and wine will be available, as well.

It’s been about seven years since I actually watched a movie in a theater, but I might try this one!

The Reunion:

This story is from CBS’ “On the Road” with Steve Hartman:

Steve Morris is waiting for an old friend, hoping this guy he hasn’t seen in years and completely lost touch with will suddenly appear just like he promised 40 years earlier.

“I remember Joe reaching into his wallet and pulling out a dollar, and he tore it and I got my half and he got his half.”

On one side, they wrote that day’s date, 4-4-76. On the other, their far-off reunion date of this past Monday, April 4th, 2016.

See what happens HERE.

Baby Goats:

To make your day, you really need to see this “baby goat” story.

I owned a goat when I was a kid; his name was Billy. He helped me mow the yard.

NBA Playoffs:

The good news is that the NBA regular season ends Wednesday (April 13), and the 2016 NBA playoffs begin Saturday, April 16. (NBA.com)

Golden State and San Antonio are favorites from the west. Cleveland and Toronto are favorites from the east, but watch out for Boston.
