Terrific News Tuesday!

It’s time for another edition of Terrific News Tuesday (TNT).

You won’t find any griping or complaining today – just some terrific news that caught my attention!

Here is some of the good stuff that made TNT:

  • Memorial Day Services
  • The B-17 & Fort Benton
  • Scheels & Memorial Day
  • Spring Sports Season
  • Billings & Concerts
  • QuikTrip Safe Place
  • Ultimate Tom Brady Fan

Memorial Day Services:

I salute all the people behind the scenes who make sure there are Memorial Day services across our nation.

Thanks to CSPAN for televising the National Memorial Day ceremony from Arlington National Cemetery. It is one of the highlights of the day for me. You can watch it HERE.

The B-17 & Fort Benton:

A salute goes to Chouteau County historian Hank Armstrong and the other fine folks who researched the crash of a B-17 bomber outside of Fort Benton, Montana. Ten airmen died in the crash that happened in 1943. A memorial was dedicated on Memorial Day to these men.

Thanks to Great Falls Tribune reporter David Murray for the wonderful story about the crash and the work by Armstrong and his team. Read it HERE.

Scheels & Memorial Day:

I applaud the sporting goods store Scheels for their Memorial Day advertisement in the Great Falls Tribune and on Twitter which said, “In memory of those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our country and freedom around the world.”

It’s always great to see businesses supporting veterans.

Spring Sports Season:

It is one of the tougher jobs around – being a reporter and covering high school sports in Montana. The spring high school sports season just ended this weekend and here’s a salute to the sports reporters at the Great Falls Tribune, KRTV, and KFBB who tweeted the scores and covered the games for all of us who enjoy sports in north central Montana.

Billings & Concerts:

There are some great concerts coming to the MetraPark in Billings this summer and fall. Today, the Billings Gazette announced that Sir Elton John will play there October 7. Other concerts scheduled include The Eagles June 2; Trace Adkins, June 25; Motley Crue, July 26; Awolnation, Lynyrd Skynyrd with Blue Oyster Cult and Martina McBride play during the MontanaFair in August; and Miranda Lambert is set for Sept. 25.

QuikTrip Safe Place:

QuikTrip is a convenience/gasoline retail store that has been around since 1958. They have 700 stores in 11 mostly Midwestern and southern states. They are also a designated “Safe Place” for at-risk youth.

According to their website:

Safe Place is a national nonprofit organization that provides safety for troubled or threatened youth. Since 1991, QuikTrip has been a designated Safe Place, where runaways and at-risk youth can come in off the street, receive food and drink, and wait for a volunteer from a Safe Place agency partner to connect them with professional help or a place to stay until their situation is resolved.

QuikTrip is doing a great service for young people.

Ultimate Tom Brady Fan:

I have to salute Patricia M. Shong who wanted to ensure everyone knew her feelings about New England quarterback Tom Brady.

The Associated Press reported that Patricia M. Shong, of Auburn, Massachusetts, died on Monday surrounded by family. Here is part of her obituary:

Patricia enjoyed scrapbooking, cross stitching, pixel art, knitting, and crocheting. She relished weekly card night with the ladies. Patricia was known for being an avid reader which all who knew her can attest to based on her mini home library. She especially loved spending time with her family. She would also like us to set the record straight for her: Brady is innocent!!
