Caught My Eye…

There is nothing more deceptive than an obvious fact. – Arthur Conan Doyle

Welcome to the big show to end the week – “Caught My Eye” (CME)!

If you are a first-time visitor, CME is posted right here every Friday morning. This is when I take a look at some of the stories I did not have time to write about during the week. I often throw in a touch of sarcasm to make you smile – or to irritate you just a little – maybe both.

Topics this week include least popular U.S. Senators, cell phone patrols, O’Reilly & gun control, the FBI Watch List, the eighth grade graduation speech, the Kosovo Chili Cook-off, and much more!

Zinke: Montana’s Airspace is ?

It’s always good to see our elected officials making their way around the state meeting with constituents to discuss the local issues that are important to Montanans.

U.S. Representative Ryan Zinke (R-MT) spent last week visiting Missoula, Bozeman, Billings, Glasgow, and Great Falls.

Although the three main sources for news in Great Falls covered the event in Great Falls (KRTV, KFBB, Great Falls Tribune), the story in the Tribune was the one that caught my attention – especially the quote about Montana’s airspace in which Zinke said, “Montana has a huge amount of airspace that should be made available for training.”

After reading that, I thought, “What the %&$@?”

Media Feuds

It’s not too often that a small-market newspaper goes after another small-market media outlet, but that was what happened in Great Falls (MT) on July 2.   So before this Viewpoint from the Great Falls Tribune Editorial Board is placed into the archives (and we have to pay to read it), I wanted to comment about it.

The Tribune Editorial Board was bothered that “one local media outlet” released the name of an accident victim before (they contend) all the relatives were notified.  The Tribune was also miffed that that the same media outlet reported that an alleged beating victim from Great Falls had died in a hospital in Salt Lake City.  The Tribune contends the beating victim was still alive at that time and even Tweeted on June 25: Continue reading

Caught My Eye…

It’s getting close to March Madness time once again, but in my household it’s madness all the time as I am surfing the web to bring you the stories that “Caught My Eye” each week.

These are the stories that I did not have time to write about during the week, so I take a quick look at them and sometimes add a little sarcasm in my comments.

This week I write about KRTV and KFBB, REO Speedwagon, spiders, Charlie Sheen, and I take a look at some of the e-mails that hit my political inbox!

Since it’s Friday and not much work is being done, grab a cup of your favorite drink (no alcohol before noon, please), sit back and relax and enjoy the 33rd straight week of Caught My Eye. Continue reading
