“If a man watches three football games in a row, he should be declared legally dead.” -Erma Bombeck
I’m guilty. I have watched three football games in a row.
According to a poll from Lifewayresearch.com when presented with the statement, “I would skip a weekly worship service in order to watch my favorite football team” 68% of those polled disagreed with that statement. Only 15% said they “somewhat” or “strongly” agreed with that statement.
You can read the survey results HERE.
I was a little surprised that 68% said they would not skip the service. They must not like football as much as I do!
In the 2000s we have seen churches “cater” to the needs of the people more than ever. In the past most church services were on Sunday morning and evening. Some had Wednesday evening services.
Now many churches have multiple services on Sunday, some services on Saturday night, and many provide either live feeds of the services over the internet or a video link of the service soon after.
The church I attend has a 9:00 a.m. service and an 11:00 a.m. service and Sunday evening service. The NFL games start at 11:00 a.m. here in the Mountain Time Zone, so I attend the 9:00 a.m. service so I can get home in time for the game. I am happy there’s an 11:00 a.m. service as this keeps the Pastor from going on and on and on.
I know, I know, I should not have written that last sentence…
Have a great week!
