CIA Torture Report

Every day on the USA Today website they list the “5 things you need to know” for that particular day. It is part of my morning read from around the web.

The number one thing they listed for today is “Angels strut for Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.” I actually appreciate the reminder.

The number two thing they listed for today is “Torture report: Is summary’s release a good or bad thing?”

The U.S. Senate Select Committee on Intelligence is set to release a redacted summary report today which details the CIA’s detention and interrogation program. Some reports say the summary will be about 500 pages.

Many say that it is being released now because the chair of the committee, Senator Dianne Feinstein, a Democrat, will no longer be chair next month so she wanted to get the report out – and stick it to the Republicans. It’s not really surprising that politics are involved, is it?

American facilities around the world are on a higher state of alert because of what the report contains. Some feel there could be violence directed toward Americans.

So, should the report be released? Take the poll:

  2. I think the public has a right to know what happens, especially when the government is involved, but I don’t need to know the gory details, especially if it puts innocent Americans at risk.
