Thanks for visiting! For those keeping track, there are just 39 days until the November election!
If you are a first-time visitor, “Caught My Eye” is posted right here every Friday morning! This is when I take a look at some of the stories I did not have time to write about during the week. I often throw in a touch of sarcasm to make you smile – or to irritate you just a little – or maybe both.
Today I write about Ryan Zinke & John Lewis, debating, Eric Holder, Bob Seger, people who need to get off Facebook, follow me, plus we have a winner who is making Montana proud!
Zinke “Stars” Ad:
U.S. House candidate Ryan Zinke continues to compare his military career with the career of his opponent, John Lewis, who worked for U.S. Senator Max Baucus.
In the new ad called “Stars” Zinke compares his two Bronze Stars for combat in Iraq in 2004 to Lewis’ work as a senate legislative correspondent. There was a hand typing on an old typewriter.
Later in the 30-second ad, Zinke says that in 2010 “John Lewis begins work writing Obamacare” with the hand and the typewriter again. The Republicans tried the tactic of tying Jon Tester to Obamacare in 2012 and that failed miserably. Lewis has already said that he had no role in drafting Obamacare.
I don’t like this Zinke campaign ad “Stars” as much as I liked the last one called, “Two Lives, Two Choices, Two Candidates.” I give “Stars” an eight out of 10 (8/10). You can watch it HERE.
Debates:
On this date (Sept. 26) in 1960, the first televised debate between presidential candidates took place in Chicago as Republican Richard M. Nixon and Democrat John F. Kennedy squared off.
I remember when candidates did not dodge debates…
Holder:
Eric Holder is stepping down as Attorney General (AG), but the Associated Press reported that he “planned to remain at the Justice Department until his successor was in place.”
Holder is the first black AG. I think he did a pretty good job, although no matter who the AG is the other political party wants their head on a platter almost every week – mostly to score political points. Before the hate mail starts, I liked Attorney General John Ashcroft, too.
Roll Call reported:
Even before Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr.’s resignation was officially announced, House and Senate lawmakers were sending out statements reacting to the news.
The sentiments broke down neatly along party lines, with Republicans openly cheering an end to Holder’s six years atop the Justice Department and Democrats just as enthusiastically expressed appreciation for the nation’s first black attorney general.
It will be interesting to see who President Obama selects to replace Holder. The President has about two years left. I believe if the President picks someone who is qualified and passes the required background checks, that person should sail through the senate.
The GOP is already urging Obama not to fill the position during the lame duck session. That’s because they like their chances of having the majority in the senate come January. Look for the slot to be filled before January and there’s little the GOP can do to stop it.
It should be fun to watch…
Bob Seger:
I saw Seger in concert during his “Against the Wind” tour back in the day. He’s back with a new tour that starts in October. Plus, there’s a new album!
Rolling Stone has “Readers’ Poll: The 10 Best Bob Seger Songs” that you can see HERE. My favorite from Seger is “Roll Me Away” with these great Seger lyrics:
Stood alone on a mountain top,
Starin’ out at the great divide
I could go east, I could go west,
It was all up to me to decide

Making Montana Proud:
This section is where I mention people or groups whose actions embarrass Montana in some way.
-From the Montana Standard: Franky Lopez “pulled his shirt around, but not over his head — a look popularized by the TV show ‘Beavis and Butthead’” while burglarizing a local liquor store. He stole “more than $300 worth of alcohol, including a ½ gallon of McCormick’s vodka and an undisclosed amount of cash.”
So, was Lopez Beavis or Butthead?
