Thursday Numbers

Welcome – thanks for dropping by!

“Thursday Numbers” is the weekly column where I take a look at the numbers that are in the news (in descending order) and provide commentary (sometimes spiked with sarcasm) just to make you smile, shake your head, or make you send me nasty e-mails or Tweets.

This week I write about pay raises for federal judges, the Social Security Administration, a former Missoula Sentinel High principal, Hot Lotto, chicken, parking tickets, Kansas City Royals, cured ham, Barbara Walters, best sketches from Saturday Night Live, Legos and Derek Jeter, AC/DC, and much more!

Prepare yourself – your free dose of knowledge awaits…

1,000,000,000

According to a report from National Journal, “More than 2,000 federal judges from Chief Justice John Roberts down will share in about $1 billion more in salary and benefits over the next 10 years because of court rulings determining that Congress improperly withheld automatic increases dating from the 1990s, according to the Congressional Budget Office.”

What a waste…

5,600

According to the Great Falls Tribune, “People who have racked up more than $50 in parking tickets over the last year owe the city about $5,600.”

One named listed as owing $50-$99 was Adam Sanchez, Jr. He might be easy to locate if he’s the same person who is charged with the death of a local deputy…

1985

That’s the last year the Kansas City Royals made the Major League Baseball playoffs. They won the World Series that year. This year the Royals are up by three games for a wildcard spot, and they are two games behind Detroit for the American League Central pennant.

The MLB regular season ends Sunday.
