Caught My Eye…

If you’re lost in the woods start talking loudly about politics. Someone will show up to argue with you. – Unknown

TWW Afternoon Extra: Sticking it to the Man

Some Monday afternoon thoughts from your favorite independent blog…

Returning Ballots:

Some people in Montana have been giving their completed ballots to strangers to turn in for them. That reminded me of the Winston Churchill quote about voting:

“The best argument against democracy is a five-minute conversation with the average voter.”

Tribune’s Cartoon:

I wrote about the Great Falls Tribune printing a cartoon about Donald Trump that contained his quote with the word that begins with a “P.”

The Tribune apologized “to those who were offended.” Ironically the apology was in “The Edge” column…

Bumper Sticker

I saw this bumper sticker on the door of a gas station in a small town in western Montana or northern Idaho where I stopped for fuel this weekend (I was too busy texting and driving to realize where I was) (just kiddin):

“For safety sake remove ski mask and unload all weapons before entering”

Hunting:

Since hunting season is open in Montana, I can’t wait to see new hunting photos from candidates and elected officials…

Jury Questionnaire 1:

The Great Falls Municipal Court tells prospective jurors to “Please Print or Type” when filling out the jury questionnaire form.

What is this, 1980? I don’t have an IBM Selectric typewriter anymore…

Jury Questionnaire 2:

The Great Falls Municipal Court tells prospective jurors on their jury questionnaire, “Please fill out and return the following within seven (7) days…”

I waited 10-12 days – just to stick it to the man…

Campaign Promise:

The Great Falls Tribune reported that Supreme Court Chief Justice Mike McGrath told Great Falls-area attorneys that more help may be on the way. McGrath said the 2017 Legislature will be asked to fund another judge in Great Falls 8th Judicial District Court to help with the growing workload.

McGrath’s promise reminds me of the campaign promise from Herbert Hoover, “A chicken in every pot and a car in every garage.”

I think the judges in Montana are the best money can buy…

Billings Gazette Endorses:

The Billings Gazette devoted about 600 words just to tell readers why they endorse candidates. I could have done it in just three words:

It sells papers.

Caught My Eye…

Wise men speak because they have something to say; Fools because they have to say something. – Plato

Get your coffee! Welcome to the big show to end the week “Caught My Eye” (CME). We’re coming to you from The Western Word world headquarters which is just a few (thousand) miles west of Aleppo, Syria! (Map for Gary Johnson)

If you are a first-time visitor, CME is posted right here every Friday morning. This is when I take a look at some of the stories I did not have time to write about during the week. I often throw in a touch of sarcasm to make you smile – or to irritate you just a little – maybe both.

Topics this week include Zinke’s First Campaign Ad, Municipal Court & contempt, TWW picks the winning candidates (so far), Commander-in-Chief Forum, Colin Powell’s Advice, Charter Spectrum cable TV, and much more!
