THE “NONPARTISAN” RACE:
The other day, a MAGA conservative told me he hoped Dan Wilson would win the Montana Supreme Court Justice race this November. He asked me what I thought. I told him that it looks to me like Wilson sold his soul to the Republican Party in the hope that it will help him get elected. I said I could never vote for a person who sells out like that.
Wilson received $20,000 from the Montana Republican Party. He was also a keynote speaker for the Montana GOP’s Winter Kickoff event in Great Falls. (Source)
Wilson’s opponent in the race is Amy Eddy, also a district court judge in Flathead County. Eddy has said she will not accept donations from political parties and has said repeatedly that she believes in keeping politics out of the state’s nonpartisan judicial elections. (Source)
“On the Supreme Court, I will focus on protecting Montanans’ freedoms and rights. I will uphold the Constitution. I will always follow the law and I’ll keep politics out of the courtroom. As a judge, I have always been proud of the fact that everyone who steps into my court gets a fair shake, and I’ll continue this approach on our state’s highest court.” -Judge Amy Eddy
I applaud her. Visit her website HERE.
I firmly believe judges should act as neutral arbiters of the law, not politicians. Montana’s nonpartisan judicial elections are vital to maintaining an independent, objective court system, and I strongly support keeping party politics out of our courts.
I voted for Amy Eddy in the primary election and will be voting for her in the General Election. I hope you will join me.
TERM LIMIT LAWSUIT UPDATE:
Lee Newspapers reports that a court hearing has been set for Tuesday (TODAY) afternoon to determine whether the reelection bids of two tenured Republican Montana legislators should be blocked for alleged term-limit violations.
State Reps. Llew Jones and Steve Fitzpatrick filed a lawsuit last week challenging an official opinion from Attorney General Austin Knudsen, issued days earlier, that interprets the state constitution’s language on term limits to bar lawmakers from moving back and forth between the Legislature’s two chambers.
I expect the political “opinion” from Knudsen will be thrown out. The Montana Supreme Court will probably be the next stop. Lewis and Clark District Judge Christopher Abbott will oversee the hearing at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
TRUMP THREATS:
In case you missed it, President Trump threatened Monday to bomb Oman if the country “gets in the way” of U.S. efforts to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and end the war with Iran, according to Fox News. Earlier, Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman said Tehran had reached an agreement with Oman regarding future shipping routes in the strait. (CBS)
The Associated Press (AP) reports that this is not the first time that Trump has threatened Oman. In May, he told reporters during a Cabinet meeting that “Oman will behave just like everybody else, or we will have to blow them up.”
BEST & WORST STATES FOR WOMEN’S EQUALITY:
From my friends at WalletHub…
With Women’s Equality Day around the corner and the U.S. ranking just 43rd for gender equality worldwide, the personal-finance company WalletHub released its report on the Best & Worst States for Women’s Equality in 2026.
WalletHub compared the 50 states across 17 key metrics. The data set ranges from the gap between female and male executives to the disparity in unemployment rates for women and men to the income gap.
Montana was ranked #42. Utah was ranked #50 (Worst). Hawaii was ranked #1. (Best)
