2026 MONTANA CAMPAIGN NEWS

MT-01 GOP Debate…

Just a reminder that there’s a debate in Bozeman this evening (Tuesday, April 21), and it might be a good one! 

It looks like only two of the four Republican candidates running for Congress in MT-01 will show up for the debate in Bozeman on April 21. 

According to the Montana GOP website:

Join the Montana Republican Party on Tuesday, April 21, in Bozeman for the MT-01 Congressional Republican Primary Debate.

This is a great opportunity to hear directly from Congressional candidates Aaron Flint and Al Olszewski, as well as a chance to “meet & greet” local candidates for the Montana legislature!

Apparently, Christi Jacobsen and Ray Curtis will not be participating. 

Campaign Mailers…

For the new readers, I try to keep track of the campaign literature received during the campaign season. Some of the better mailers get shown on The Western Word. 

So far this primary campaign season, I have received 11 campaign mailers. That is through Monday (April 20). 

I live in a competitive primary for State Senate District 12, and House District 23 also has one.  

Please make sure you save your mailers and recycle them! 

Cascade County Sheriff…

Primary voters will decide who will be the next sheriff in Cascade County, as the incumbent Sheriff Jesse Slaughter will face off against Melinda Kahle. Both are running as Republicans.

TRUMP’S LABOR SECRETARY OUT:

The Associated Press (AP) and other sources reported that Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer is out of President Donald Trump’s Cabinet, the White House said Monday, after multiple allegations of abusing her position’s power, including having an affair with a subordinate and drinking alcohol on the job. 

Great googly moogly! 

For those keeping score at home, the AP says Chavez-DeRemer is the third Trump Cabinet member to leave her post after Trump fired his embattled Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem in March and ousted Attorney General Pam Bondi earlier this month.
