The Monday Memo

Welcome back! Here are the topics I’m addressing to start the week:

  • Carefully Orchestrated Handoff
  • Dignified Transfer & Fox News
  • SAVE America Act
  • Just a Reminder
  • One More Thing

CAREFULLY ORCHESTRATED HANDOFF:

There was still some talk over the weekend and on the Sunday talk shows about the orchestrated moves put on by U.S. Senator Steve Daines and U.S. Attorney for Montana Kurt Alme, who is now a former U.S. Attorney.

In case you missed it, Alme filed for the U.S. Senate seat at 4:52 p.m., and Daines withdrew his candidacy five minutes later, at approximately 4:57 p.m.

As the Daily Montanan reported, the maneuver occurred just minutes before the 5:00 p.m. deadline, effectively clearing the path for Alme as Daines’ handpicked successor while preventing other candidates from entering the race.

Then, the endorsements started flowing in. Even one from the President. Ironic!

Did the move piss off enough people that Alme can’t win the seat? Only time will tell.

I think the move helps Independent candidate Seth Bodnar more than it does any Democrat in the race. His opponents are trying to paint him as a Democrat running as an independent. He will have to fight that.

Meanwhile, Alme, who has never run for office, will need to beat two other Republicans in the Senate primary, Charles Walking Child and Lee Calhoun.

DIGNIFIED TRANSFER & FOX NEWS:

The dignified transfer, a ritual that returns the remains of U.S. service members killed in action, is considered one of the most somber duties of any commander in chief.

The Daily Beast and others reported on the dignified transfer that occurred on March 7.

There was a dignified transfer on Saturday (March 7), and Fox News has acknowledged airing the wrong video of President Donald Trump during the ceremony. During Saturday’s coverage, programs including Fox & Friends Weekend, The Big Weekend Show, and Fox News Sunday aired footage from a dignified transfer on December 17, 2025, instead of the actual ceremony held on March 7.

In the older footage aired by Fox, Trump was seen without a hat. In the actual ceremony on Saturday for six service members killed in Kuwait, Trump wore a white “USA” baseball cap, which he did not remove during the event.

I think Trump showed disrespect by not removing his hat. I think Fox News tried to hide it.

The hat is available on the Trump Store website for $55. We all know Trump would do anything for a buck.

SAVE AMERICA ACT:

In a post on social media, President Donald Trump says he will not sign any other bills until the SAVE America Act is passed.

Our country has far more urgent priorities than chasing the myth of widespread voter fraud—a narrative that primarily functions to justify disenfranchising voters.

NPR pointed out that the impact of Trump’s threat to withhold his signature on all bills remains unclear. If the House and Senate advance a bill and Congress remains in session, any bill would become law within 10 days, even without a signature from Trump.

JUST A REMINDER:

As of today, March 9, 2026, the partial government shutdown has been going on for 24 days. The shutdown primarily impacts DHS agencies, including TSA, Customs and Border Protection (CBP), ICE, the Coast Guard, and the Secret Service.

Since we are at war with Iran, you would think we would want Homeland Security fully funded.

ONE MORE THING:

The truth is not afraid of questions.

## HAVE A GREAT WEEK ##
