Happy Groundhog Day! I’m so glad you’re kicking off your week—and a brand-new month—with The Western Word. I’m here to help you cut through the noise with a steady dose of reason and common-sense commentary. Here’s what’s on the lineup for today:
- Great Falls City Commission
- Great Falls LGBTQ+ Center
- The Montana Plan
- Drudge Report
- One More Thing
GREAT FALLS CITY COMMISSION:
Great Falls Mayor Cory Reeves and his minion, Commissioner Rick Tryon, are upset that a local Great Falls group, Great Falls Rising, is planning on attending the February 3, 2026, City Commission meeting and “express their displeasure with ICE.”
Here is part of what the Mayor posted on his Facebook page:
City Commission meetings exist to conduct City business, issues that are within the legal authority and jurisdiction of the City Commission.
A local liberal group is encouraging people to show up Tuesday to protest ICE activity and events that occurred outside Great Falls and outside the authority of the City Commission.
I think it is important for the so-called leaders of Great Falls to hear the thoughts and feelings of local citizens on a variety of issues that may affect the city of Great Falls in the future.
It appears that, in sharing the information from Great Falls Rising, the Mayor also disclosed the private cell phone number and private email of the sender.
What a dumbass.
Over the time that these two (Reeves/Tryon) have served together on the Commission, it seems like the Mayor and Commissioner are auditioning for a “Dumb and Dumber” reboot at the civic center twice a month—and honestly? They’re absolute naturals. No notes.
I support Great Falls Rising 100%.
GREAT FALLS LGBTQ+ CENTER:
Over the weekend, KRTV in Great Falls reported that the Great Falls LGBTQ+ Center was closing. I happened to catch the story on the KRTV Facebook page and decided to check out the comments.
The vitriol being spewed was absolutely vile and frankly, pathetic. It’s beyond shameful to see such blatant cruelty directed at members of our own community. As a straight ally, I’m appalled—the sheer amount of hateful garbage people are comfortable saying out loud is nothing short of disgusting.
I posted, “Haters gonna hate. Be Better.” A few people went after me. I can handle that, and they are welcome to stop by my blog if they can handle it.
Later in the day, KRTV removed the post from Facebook.
Then, it was announced that the Center was staying open:
It has been a whirlwind of a day for sure! First and foremost, the Great Falls LGBTQ Center is NOT dissolving after all. Community members have stepped up to take over Center operations.
So take that, haters!
THE MONTANA PLAN:
It was good to see that a lot of concerned citizens showed up in Billings to hear about the Montana Plan, a proposal backed by the Transparent Election Initiative, which would remove state-granted powers that allow corporations to spend money in political campaigns. (Source)
MTN News reported that the floor of the Lincoln Center was nearly full Saturday afternoon for a discussion about money in politics and a proposed ballot initiative that could reshape how elections are funded in Montana.
It was also reported that speakers at Saturday’s event included Jeff Mangan, former state commissioner of political practices and founder of the Transparent Election Initiative, former U.S. Senator Jon Tester, former Montana Governor Marc Racicot, and independent U.S. House candidate Gary Buchanan.
I predicted a long time ago that if this Initiative gets on the ballot, it will pass overwhelmingly. There will be a lot of money spent to defeat it.
Check out their website HERE. Please do what you can to support this Initiative. Check out the EVENTS section to see what’s happening in your area.
DRUDGE REPORT:
All of my readers should check out the Drudge Report every day and see what is really happening with the Epstein files, Trump, and everything else.
Here is a screenshot from Sunday. Click on it to enlarge.
ONE MORE THING:
Hate will not make us great.
## HAVE A GREAT WEEK ##

Wow the Jerusalem Post article about DOJ deletions from the Epstein papers that was linked earlier from the Drudge Report is pretty eye opening. If true.

In addition to Mayor Cory’s very questionable judgment, he also seems to be very fragile. His Facebook post (currently) says 191 comments but if you pop it open to show “All Comments” there are nowhere near 191 visible. That’s a sure sign someone has been hiding comments. Some people do that if comments are hateful or vile or use foul language but Mayor Cory appears to have hidden some that simply did not agree with his stance.
For instance this one that merely pointed out he regularly allows public comments the commission can do nothing about.
“Mayor Cory
As a frequent watcher of the commission proceedings I know you regularly allow people to stand up at the lectern during open comment time and carry on about all manner of subjects that aren’t necessarily within the purview of the city commission. Johnny Angry is a prime example. And the guy with all the comments about marijuana. But still you give them their 3 minutes that the participation rules allow, usually politely thank them at the end, maybe make a comment that you can’t do anything about it, and then move along.
Every resident / voter should expect to be treated equally under the precedent you have established over the past two years.”
Brutal abusive stuff right there.
Terry – that was a perfect example of how crazy the Mayor’s comments were about GF Rising. Thanks for sharing! -JmB
Here’s another cartoon for the Transparent Election Initiative …
